The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

If you were a Southampton fan would you want to bother with the last 11 games? They don’t look anywhere near close to picking up the 3 points needed to avoid Derby’s 17 year old record and indeed could have relegation rubber stamped by the start of April given their next 3 are the RS, Wolves and Palace

Must be truly depressing for them, 9 points and we're nearly into March. And 3 of them were curtesy of our beloved former manager!

They could have kept Russell and in all likelihood come straight back up. Who knows what happens to them next season.

Beat us at the final game at goodison to get those 3 points !

If anything, when you really think about it, it’s actually Wolves losing tonight like they just did, which could be catastrophic for us. No doubt Leicester and Ipswich will be buoyed by seeing that result and now go on an unbelievable run, and both will surge past us and Wolves. Worrying times.
And just when I had thought we were safe

Palace doing pretty well - good result at their place that was.

I'm daring to dream of a higher finish but we have some tough teams to overtake.

Would everyone still be happy with just avoiding the drop now ?
I'd be very very happy avoiding the drop and finishing above Wolves, Manure and West Ham. Add Spurs to that list but think that's unlikely

Obviously they arent good to begin with, but I dont think its a coincidence that Roma are flying at the top of the Serie A form table after Juric left. Terrible appointment for them.

Obviously want to pick up as many wins as we can, but my only wish for this season from the beginning was for Everton to stay up. Anything above that is a bonus overall in my opinion. I do have faith that things will finally start to change for the better here. Getting to the summer as a Premier League club is the most important step in that process.

The bottom three are toast. Southampton and Leicester offer nothing and will go down with a whimper. Ipswich will put up a bit more of a fight but even with them the only chance they've got is if Wolves implode and realistically that's not gonna happen. The gulf between the promoted teams and established clubs gets wider and wider by the year and I see very little chance of things changing next season. Out of all the teams looking to come up, only Leeds have even a slight chance to even get 17th. Everyone else is guaranteed the bottom three. The PL has absolutely ruined football. The gulf between the top teams and everyone else is as wide as the gulf between the poor but established clubs and the top championship sides.

Champions league. This is what happens. It’s a blessing but a curse at the same time when you don’t have the squad there.
Same with Newcastle last season. The problem is there have been so many teams fighting for 7th spot to get a European spot while the Sly 6 have made the other 6 spots their own. Its very similar to the teams coming up from the championship, most come up and go back down, a lot of teams get the 7th European spot for one season, maybe 2, and then fall back for a few seasons.
