Current Affairs The next Tory (strong and stable) leader is Boris Johnson

Sajid Javid is the only option for the Tories at this point. He's the only major candidate they could filed right now that might stand a chance with centrist voters.

Centrist?

That creepy little prick still hasn't grown out of Ayn Rand.

Nothing centrist about him at all.

He and McVey probably terrify me the most of all of them.
I didn't say he was a centrist mate. I said he's the only major candidate that the Tories could filed that could possibly appeal to centrists voters. He's much smarter the Bo-Jo, Gove ect and at this point he's also a good deal less divisive to a good portion of the electorate.

Rightly or wrongly, the leadership contest is going to be driven and dominated by Brexit.

Similar to the Labour Party, the tory MPs are dominated by people who originally supported Remain, albeit most of these do seem prepared to honour the result of the first referendum. By contrast, the party members and constituents are dominated by Brexiteers.

Whilst I've no doubt that the party will remain committed to Brexit, I do believe the final 2 will consist of a moderate Brexiteer who will look to resurrect talks with the EU to try and get a new withdrawal agreement on the table acceptable to Parliament, and a strong Brexiteer who will likely just look to leave asap. The problem with this is that the party members will likely vote for the latter, but they will then still find themselves with a lack of support in the current Parliament to get a no deal Brexit through.

In the unlikely event that the party chose the more moderate option, I can see this leading to a full break up of the Tory party, with the ERG element jumping ship and, in the process, adding more legitimacy to the Brexit party.

So we either end up with a right wing Tory party, or a middle of the road party and a further right wing Brexit party who will seriously challenge them for their share of the vote.

Thus is the fallout of failing to deliver Brexit.

Corbyn and Labour will be hoping it's not Boris Johnson. He would win a GE very easily. Older people love him, even Labour old people would vote for him.
