Current Affairs The next Tory (strong and stable) leader is Boris Johnson

I don't agree Neil. Trying to lure Boris out into the open so he can ridicule himself is by far his best way of trying to close the gap on him.

Even if Boris continues to avoid public debate, which I think he will, a lot of Tory members may see the correlation with the last GE when May avoided direct debate with Corbyn, and we all know how that ended for her.

i think the members are completely blind and boris will win easily

You're probably right Neil. All I'm saying is don't underestimate the ability of the guy to make an utter fool of himself given the right platform. Hunt won't lose any existing support by calling Boris a coward. But if he can lure him out into the open then Boris could do the job for him.

But I agree, I don't think it will be anywhere near enough. I'm already resigned to Boris being our next PM. It should make PMs question time enjoyable to watch if nothing else.

How gullible do they think we are. Looks like they've dumped a few chairs and a table in a fallow field, said 'gaze vacuously', and all is well again in the strong and stable world of the Tory party.

It's nice that that home for the insane has a lovely grassy patch for the inmates to spend sometime outdoors while they get visitors.

Err, other policies other than Brexit related?
Knife crime?
Housing shortage?
Manufacturing base?
Prisons?
Etc
Etc
He is playing a blinder by avoiding any scrutiny? You think this is good for a potential prime minister?
Not a hater or a Corbyista, just an interested citizen.

He addressed knife crime and housing at the first hustings. He spoke of his passion for business although he needs to say more about manufacturing. It was not Boris who raised the issue of a row at his flat and then repeatedly asked the question. I think he response to the row below says it all..

Very odd tactic by hunt, unless he is thinking about a longer game...

He thinks he’s playing to a strength and followed it up by suggesting that the U.K. could get involved with any US action against Iran......I wonder how that will go down....

He "addressed" them without policy.
Prisons?
Climate change?
NATO?
Hate crime?
Nothing..
I don't care about his private life. He's a bluffer with no substance unless he proves otherwise through the appropriate scrutiny.

I don’t actually remember him being asked any of the questions you have listed...it’s hard to bluff if you’re not even asked....

That shambles of a debate on BBC yielded nowt either way. Its why I, and a few others I guess, would like to see both candidates under some sort of scrutiny. As I am not a member of the Tory party I get that I dont deserve to ask for anything, as I dont have a vote anyrate.

But as a citizen I would like to see some detail of how either of them plan to deliver us all from this mess.

I agree, but it’s a bit like allowing Utd or RS supporters a view of who should be the EFC captain as this is first and foremost a vote for the leader of a party. His government could be collapsed by a no confidence vote the day after and he may have to fight a GE, but then debate with Corbyn and not be forced to criticise another Tory who he may want within his cabinet. Boris will do all the hustings but it looks as though he’s not going to let the TV and other Media set the agenda for the Conservative party election....

You would think he would take any and every opportunity to get across his policies.
He's running scared and his advisors are shielding him from proper scrutiny as even they don't trust him.
He has no need to " let the media set the agenda", he could do it himself if he wasn't scared of scrutiny.

But I thought we were only interested in his love live and the row he had at his girlfriends flat. Surely we don’t want to overburden him by asking questions on policy and detail like that....he’s playing a blinder really.....

I know he wants to leave by Oct 31st. Once he gets us out I don’t care if he remains as PM or not. Horses for courses. We needed Churchill to sort out our last European difficulty and if Boris does similar with our exit I will be happy.......

Absolute parody now

I see the action to propel Johnson into the PM role as a deliberate and planned act, therefore there must be some end game in it.

Nobody could be so out of touch with society as to consider him a good option, so for me this must be deliberate and he is there for a pre-determined purpose.

My initial guess is that he is being set up as a “patsy”, he will negotiate selling off the NHS as part of trade negotiations post Brexit and will be the man remembered for doing that. He will be ousted in two years time if another party can get their act together, but by then the damage will be done and he will be living elsewhere and remembered as the man who we were stupid enough to allow become PM.
