It is your assumption that he took no interest. He may well have taken enough to know, on advice from his senior management that there was not enough evidence at that time to secure a conviction. Your ire would be better turned on those investigating Saville, the Police. If there was enough evidence to prosecute Saville at that time, why was it not found and handed over?
She's a right piece of work as well. The one driving much of the culture war crap coming from the government. Glad to see her gone. Hopefully take Johnson with her.

Tbh since this is the person who called Johnson’s burqa comments "reasoned, balanced and thoughtful” I am a bit cynical that the Saville smear, vile as it is, would have caused the resignation.
She probably can’t leave due to the parties as she was likely at some of them but can make this her “principled stance” to leave a sinking ship and jump onto one that looks to be more promising.
She's leaving because as Peston says above, the coup has started. Sunak is Murdoch et al's annointed successor.
She's worked closely with Johnson for 14 years. She's never been bothered enough by his crassness and mendacity before. Pardon us for being cynical about her motives lol

Perhaps, though the idiocy of the smear is not that he said it so much, it’s that it fixes in peoples minds the idea that a leader of an organisation is truly responsible for what it does or doesn’t do.
Why on earth would Johnson want to remind people of that, now of all times? The failures of COVID, Brexit and government generally are all his fault, according to himself.
