Current Affairs The next Tory (strong and stable) leader is Boris Johnson

They would but I cant see them winning the next election. The Red Wall seats really only went for the Tories due to Boris (similar to Trump) and Brexit. Brexit is proving a shambles and the same people who liked Boris arnt going to feel the sane about Sunak, Gove, Patel, Truss etc

The problem Labour have is that they could win all them back and the Tories would still have a 30+ majority.

The Tory party have only just realised that they voted to put an idiot in charge?
No, the 20+ new tories seat holders have realised while he conned the electorate once and won them their seats.
The public won't...well probably not, well enough that they're having jitters anyway... be able to con them twice.
They want a new tory con man in charge

I do agree with Peteblue that almost all well known MPs in the Tory party are incompetent. Sunak and Patel will make life very difficult for the poor if either becomes PM, it seems great that Johnson is finished but no members of his cabinet inspire confidence.
Johnson has clearly surrounded himself with compliant sycophants with little regard for competence or intellect as a requirement for appointment.

It is therefore no surprise that there isn’t an outstanding alternative candidate for leader. That’s entirely by design.

When the wretch is inevitably ditched I would guess we’ll see a purge of the chronically incompetents and possibly a dark horse contender for the leadership.

Brexit can then be spun and presented once again as a fantastic opportunity, made possible by Johnson’s heroic vision and requiring only the appointment of the right team to now focus on the detail.

he did the job they probably wanted in 2019 tbh, somehow appealed to the 'every man' and won the red wall.

But the tories have finally realised he nothing more than soundbites and not sustainable for long term. give him the option for soundbites for too long and he'll start talking about peppa pig at a northern industry conference or something.

I think Sunak will be their next leader and he'll have the support of their various media outlets. The next election is still a big ask for Labour, it's been made so much harder to win since Scotland has became a lost cause. If the Lib Dems start to win more of the seats they used to win in the South West and other areas that could help Labour.

Rory Stewart…Rory Stewart…in what universe is the answer to any leadership requirement, Second Lieutenant (on probation) Rory Stewart. He is clearly intelligent and may have actual morals, but so are many in the Clergy and I wouldn’t want them running the country either…..Anyway, he is no longer either a Politician or an MP…..now try picking an actual MP…..
I chose him as he was an actual alternative to your hero during the leadership campaign, and I wouldn't say he was perfect, merely better than Johnson. I'm trying to pick someone from the Tories to be fair, and that's made quite difficult due both to my lack of knowledge of the Tory backbenchers and the fact that Johnson has stuffed his cabinet full of absolute cretins. Maybe Tobias Ellwood? He generally seems to come across quite well.

Incidentally, I'm curious in what universe Johnson fulfills any kind of leadership requirement. You think he's popular, I get that, but popularity isn't a leadership quality.

They are, but they're the people Johnson has recruited. It's a good sign of an awful leader when they fill their team with people less competent than them (but presumably loyal).
