Current Affairs The next Tory (strong and stable) leader is Boris Johnson

that’s a bit much; if Johnson becomes a failure and the Tories move on Pete will be supporting whomever comes long

sorry, that should be whomever comes along......

Not necessarily, I wanted Boris when May got the job, and although I thought she might be a safe pair of hands, after a while it was obvious that she was not up to the job and I wanted her removed. If Boris really starts to fail, I will be the first to mention it, while you keep defending Corbyn and his two glorious defeats. I am of course thankful to Corbyn for at least one thing, Brexit could never have happened had he not been the Labour leader, so Thank You Jeremy you served your country well..........

I'm sorry if the entirely appropriate epithet of mass murderer annoys you. But it happens to be true. Johnson's inaction and down-playing of this crisis, and his all-round lack of leadership, has led to the deaths of thousands more Britons than would otherwise have occurred if the country had used the time from the Chinese outbreak in a more intelligent way.

Apologies for stating that "small" fact as it gets in the way of your desire to breeze through this crisis on here trying to deflect from the mass murderer in question.
And yet and yet his ratings are through the roof - welcome to the real in realpolitik.
He's only 4mths into a 5yr term and he won't be able to, nor have the need to, parley it into a possible feelgood election victory like maggie did post falklands.
When he might really need it, 2 or 3 yrs down the track it'll all be gone.
Voters are fickle, with short memories

That's absolute rubbish and so typical of you.

The idea that the government caused thousands of extra deaths is absolute conjecture on your part - acting in total ignorance and with a huge element of bias.

The UK isn't China. I believe a scaled, phased lockdown on the back of a clear narrative that this virus issue was serious and wasnt going to go away was the right one.

The UK population is a difficult one to control at the best of times and a nuanced message was needed. Also many business had a chance to prepare for home working etc in a way that couldn't have been done overnight.

I'm even now coming round to the idea that it's actually fortunate we had this decade of austerity as the UK will have a much better chance of bearing the cost of this crisis going forward than if we had chosen to try and spend our way out of trouble years ago post the financial crisis of 2008-2010.

I dont like a lot of what the Tory government did over the last decade or so but that's not leading me to just accept your blanket level of crap and abuse.

zero hope of any feel good bounce for him, whenever the election is

I mean there were about three times the entire number of British military deaths in that war counted just yesterday.

In terms of disasters this is already the worst acknowledged one to hit the U.K. since the last world war. This wouldn’t be something to get a bounce off unless they handled it spectacularly well and weren’t largely to blame for the problems we are all seeing. Neither of those apply.

That austerity cut the NHS, police, fire brigades, armed forces, allowed more people to have unstable jobs, didn’t build anywhere near enough social housing and cut nearly a billion pound out of Public Health England. It’s left us in a horrible position to deal with this crisis.

So if you are going to have a pop at @davek for trolling do you mind not doing it yourself in the same post?

It wouldn't be spun that way though, any way this will drag on for many months and any temporary illness sympathy will have well gone in 3mths.

Been speaking to several people this week who have never had dealings with the benefits system up until now. They cannot believe what they are being asked to live on. The whole system was designed as a safety net, but years of Tory rags creating folk devils out of benefit claimants has made it an easy target for cutting spending. We are soon going to see just how damaging that has been.
[USER=31886]@Charlie Sweet ‘s assertion that years of austerity has been a good thing is so wide of the mark it’s unreal.

That’s simply untrue. I’ll quote you again from 2015

‘The idea of Boris in charge scares the crap out of me. The world is a dangerous place at the moment and while most of this debate has been internally focused on the economy, defence and International relationships are going to be crucial over the next ten years.

You know fine well he’s a charlatan. You just don’t want to admit it as you voted for him.
