Current Affairs The next Tory (strong and stable) leader is Boris Johnson

Agree with you 100% about the polls: they are weaponised and of almost no importance today.

If the election was just about Brexit then Johnson and his ilk might get the nod from the electorate because they offer a swift cutting of the Gordian Knot. However, it isn't a referendum on Brexit, it's an election - and people know how they vote could get them Johnson and his chaos for 5 years. No one is geting into poll booths in sufficient numbers on polling day to vote for that option.

So why not have a GE ......

At the risk of going off topic (this thread is about the Tories, not Labour) what Corbyn has done is pretty clever. He's promising all kinds of things that people like, without going into any detail as to how they'll be paid for. This will succeed for two reasons, namely a) the Conservatives are doing the same, though on a smaller scale, so can't use the "where's the magic money tree" argument, and b) the bar has been set so low for honesty in politicians now that even outright, bare-faced lying is considered acceptable.

Behaving like the opposition party you mean?

I am currently doing my daily cryptic crossword, and have just completed this clue.

"Fools from summits changing sides" (6).

The answer is Clowns.

Seems rather apt as we witness events today.

So why not have a GE ......

The majority of the Labour LPL does not want an election. They do not want Corbyn in power under any pretence.

There was a documentary a while a go following Kinnock at the 2017 election. They have him at results night. As it came through Labour had massively over performed, the guy looks physically sick.

These people have dedicated their lives to trying to stop what Corbyn represents. The hatred of him and the membership base is palpable. They will do everything they can to stop an election.

So why not have a GE ......

Because making Brexit about Corbyn is stupid. Any vote should be about Brexit and Brexit alone - a GE doesn't allow that. I can't vote for Corbyn just to Remain.

There is now an obvious, overwhelming need for a second referendum. As I've argued now for years on here. It's going to happen; it's an inevitability.

The risk of a no deal Brexit if Boris schedules the election in order to facilitate us crashing out.

Why cant we have a general election in November after that scenario has been avoided?
You're wasting your breath, he knows, he's just trolling and being a Tory sycophant.

To think yesterday s vote was so crucial the HOC resat - today looked in the place is half full....
You should have emailed them, they probably weren't expecting you to take notice.
.
Obviously, Farage hardly ever turned up for his actual duties as an mep and especially fishing minister, you were duly scornful of that I seem to remember.
