Current Affairs The next Tory (strong and stable) leader is Boris Johnson

....which is exactly why having MPs select the candidates is the way to avoid extremists taking over the party.

The problem with that notion is that MPs define "extremism" really, really poorly.

Look at Labour for instance - where a socialist party, with a socialist membership, and which has a long list of socialist achievements that it is very proud of elected a socialist leader and large numbers of their MPs reacted by claiming he was a Marxist / Trotskyist / "f***ing racist". They tried to boot him out, purging thousands of members in the process, then when they'd lost that they sat out a GE campaign where a socialist platform ended up getting a better result than anything they'd come up with for twenty years.

If this country does have a problem with extremism, then its extremism of the centre.

I pray the Tories make that error in allowing his name to go forward to the membership to vote in. He really would be a calamity at the polls. He's loved by about 90,000 Tory Party members but, as you say, the country will give him a wide berth.

Sadly, the Tory Party will ensure he never gets to the final two.

He would be the perfect in putting some real context of poverty in the UK. Can't think of anyone more suitable than Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson in promoting the findings in the report... What a gift?

Yeah, best to get a man of the people to do it, what about Hilary James Wedgewood Benn..........

He'll get slaughtered at the polls.

He'll make a lot of people laugh...mostly at him.

Expect his removal of the barriers on London's bridges to come up if he does stand, along with the sell-offs of police and fire stations during his time as Mayor.

Boris de Pfeifel Johnson....really?? The laziest, most duplicitous politician of recent years to replace the most deluded and incompetent prime minister we have had for some considerable time. The "I'm alright Jack, stuff you plebs, I've got private insurance and don't need the NHS " types will lap it up......if you support this excuse for a human being then shame on you....

Nigel Farage says hi.

A gaffe a day - guaranteed. The only reason he gets any credibility is because there's a serf mentality amongst a lot of people in this country. They hear him talk and think he's a 'wheeze' and feel they get a reflected glow by referring to him as "Boris" to others. "Boris", btw, wouldn't piss any of them if they were on fire. They'd like to think they are represented by him but he sees them as subhumans he can exploit.

If that overgrown public schoolboy gets the Tory leadership there'll be champagne corks popping at Labour HQ. I'd expect a LP majority at the next election.

But he will deliver no Brexit deal... Well today he says he will, because it's just a vehicle and that will do for people who like to hear an echo.

Ssssh! Let them go for it...

And deep gulp if a Greening type stood up! However, too Orange Book for what's left of Tory grass root these days.
