Yeah. If you just set aside the legality for a moment. Just the act of proroguing parliament for so long flies in the face of democracy. And given that they are using democracy as the main reason for upholding the result of the referendum, it just smacks of hypocrisy. You also wonder why he prorogued parliament for so long, when it would have been closed for around 3 weeks anyway whilst all the conferences were taking place.

.

Agreed, he could have dressed it up so much better, which is why I think they wanted it to make the headlines. Just have to see what the supreme court decides, if I were a betting man I would put a couple of quid on them backing the government. Freemasonry and all that...:p

You already know my views on that mate. All part of the bigger plan and all that.

Anyway I'm abstaining from all things Brexit. Not good for the old health ;)

Well, parliament can't bind itself, but i don't think it right just to revoke. Personally, Labour's plan is the best, but ought to be effected by a cross-party coalition and include tightening of electoral laws prior to a binding referendum.

Without wishing to use this thread as evidence of anything other than certain individual mania, do you think that the population has been capable of learning over the past few years? There have been a few on here who have shown a willingness to engage (@edge and @Barnfred 55 spring to mind), but most have just burrowed ever further down the rabbit hole. The first referendum was a bonkers idea. I'm not sure a second would render it any less bonkers.

We've covered loads of pertinent factors in here, like the psychology of memory, poor critical thinking/analysis from various social groups, but it's too late to alter this, although the latter ought to be promoted in secondary schools in the future, as a lesson learnt from this ordeal. We need to treat the citizens as such with a new vote, for all the problems, they should have a voice.
However, I was just thinking, that electoral reform isn't enough, we also need a full independent investigation into foreign funding, and the manipulation of our electoral process by tools used in psychological warfare. This would take time, so in my opinion, we probably would need to revoke because our legislation currently isn't fit for purpose.

To be honest Bruce i have always thought it should have been a cross party effort , not just one side wins one loses, although i do admit to jumping in on one side just to even it up at times myself ;)
Looking back its been a disaster the way its been handled on all sides in parliment.
Now got to a position that we are in danger of getting a very dangerous goverment in charge if they win an election.
On balance i think they are a bigger threat to most of the UK than the EU ever was.
Going forward , i cant see it ending any good anyway if we stay (i would sooner take that May type deal) leavers will not just go away /or the reasons they voted that way and have the added slight of there referundum result not getting put through.
If we leave with no deal its as bad we are just may as well say f you to half the nation.
Three years wasted by those who are running the country ,
if we on all sides could agree on anything its this lot in the house of parliment are not fit for the job of running the country.

A cross party effort would have seen us out by now with a Norway type arrangement. A crap outcome as it's nowhere near as good as actually being in the EU and Farage and his ilk would be as vocal as ever. On the plus side the majority of us could just get on with our lives again (albeit slightly worse off).

Ultimately there shouldn't have been a referendum, but if they had to have one it should have included a confirmatory vote on whatever deal (or no deal) had been conjured up.
