Watching the Bill Kenwright interview with SSN yesterday night (after Moyes told him he is off to United), he looked weak, worried, sad and shocked, he had to, he just lost his biggest ally, his “get out of jail” card.
The backing Moyes gave to Kenwright kept him safe all these years, last year when Blue Union were on the rise, Moyes saved Kenwright with the good results and FA cup run.
Kenwright knows that he can’t make a wrong move now, not just the Blue Union, almost every fan will turn against him aggressively if he appointed someone the fans don’t want or if the team drops to bottom half of the table.
Kenwright and the board have their investment in mind, they are also waiting for a big offer to sell the club and make a good money (the only reason they didn’t sell yet is because no one met with their asking price)
Today he said the following: ‘Everton fans are no fools. They took to David Moyes instantly. I’ll be looking to those supporters to get the kind of guidance that true football fans can give to a chairman.’
Kenwright wants the new manager to be at least approved by the fans if not chosen by them, so that if things went wrong, he will say “it was your choice” .
If tomorrow Mark Hughes went to see him and gave him a super plan that will turn Everton into a Top 4 team, Kenwright will tell him “No thanks”, the fans don’t want him and he cannot take such a risk.
Another thing that both Kenwright and the Board will want is to keep the structure as it is, they will not want someone who comes in and fires most of the coaching staff and bring his own people, and the fans should do the same, the stability is very important right now, a non British Manager like Vitor Periera will find it hard to be surrounded by full British staff, he will want to change that, bring his own people, that should rule him out.
The board will want someone to come and work with the current set-up, someone who will not unsettle the coaching and playing staff and more importantly, they will prefer someone who knows them, someone with direct connection with the club (ex player) , they will also prefer someone who has worked with David Moyes and is well aware of the financial situation, traditions, expectations and so on.
So, someone who is loved by the fans and will be welcomed by the fans, someone who is Blue or played for us or is part of the coaching staff, did Big Dunk take his coaching badges? He was living in Spain and not involved in football, suddenly he joined our coaching staff and began taking the official courses, coincidence or was being prepared for this day?
Anyway, for all those worried fans out there, relax, the likes of Hughes, MON, Neil Lennon will not be considered, Kenwright will use his connections in the media and throw lot of names in the papers and see the reaction of the fans and will only consider those who the fans want
