I find that comment incredibly insulting to the fans and the great players we've had in the past who have achieved real success.

To be honest, i think that the captain of almost any club saying that is disrespectful.

It's a "this is good enough" attitude.

This managing of expectations started by Moyes in 2002 and continued since then is so sickening.

Remember when Moyes first joined us? He talked us up as a big club who should be challenging for the title, and that he was gonna help us do that.

We soon never heard that ambition again.

To be fair, Man City and Chelski happened RIGHT after that

Let's face it, even if Kenwright had plowed some money in, it would have been hard to win during the Mourinho years, the 2004-05 campaign included. We finished 4th thanks in a large part to United and Chelsea taking points off everyone else.

There's no reason to say "we'll win the league" when there is zero chance. we should have far more ambition when it comes to cups and Europe though

That was pre-Chelsea, Spurs and City investment. If they hadn't of happened then I believe we would be top 4 regulars under Moyes.

**** off Neville you absolute [Poor language removed].

****ing disgraceful that. Worst captain we've ever had.

Here's the list of all the captains we've had

To be fair, most have them have been good. I suppose you could make an argument for Mick Lyons as he precided over our last barren spell and it wasn't until Ratcliffe came in that we started winning stuff again

Plenty of faults but I can absolutely guarantee you mick Lyons would never speak like the quotes attributed to Neville whilst he was everton captain.

I don't know much about him to be honest, I was basing purely on silverware. To be fair, we made the League Cup Final when he was captain did we not? Against Villa I think. That pretty much ties them

The club were unsuccessful but mick was a massive Evertonian , he certainly knows a but more about the history of this club than a bloke who couldn't answer what year we were formed when asked on soccer am or some such rubbish . I've defended Neville and over the years , particularly away from home , I think he's been valuable but those quotes show just because you work for something you don't understand it . Do you think ferguson would have made that quote or plenty of others that 'got us' ?

Some will probably say It's faux outrage or childish teddy throwing but after that result and the draw it was certainly the last thing I needed.
