Player Valuation: £60m
I never thought I would see the day when I would say that we should use the long ball more...but here it is.

We have become too predictable and easy to defend against. Even the very best teams vary their style of play ,often during a game. We need to mix things up a little.

RM is modelling our style on Barcelona and even they with all their wonderful players are sometimes frustrated by teams defending against them.

Think theres already a thread on this.

Long ball wouldnt work for us, the occasional pass over the top for Rom to run onto would be a good thing now and again

We certainly need to change the tippy tappy, go nowhere passing that we are currently displaying. It's a big zzzzzzfest at the present

We should be able to mix it up. Possession is great, but it's what you do with it that counts. This season we haven't attacked or pressed the opposition as much as last season. We need to stop believing our own hype and getting stuck in when needed to.

I've really never seen this on the pitch, although I'm happy to be educated about it. If anyone, it seems to me like our set up and style is closer to the Real model, although obviously an inferior version.

First half against Villa, Baines played a few long balls over the top for Rom to run onto. I thought it worked quite well and surprised the opposition a bit. We should do it more when it suits. I've lost count of the times I've seen Lukaku peeling across the back line only to receive zilch.

anything that gets us going forward rather than sideways or backwards is a positive

I am not sure about that.

Rom's goal against Hull came about when he flicked a long ball on for Kev.

We should try it more often.

What I would really like to see is more crosses into the box.

When we are playing the ball back and forward across the opposition box, I hate when the ball starts its journey back toward our half when there is no way through for Seamus or whoever is on the ball.

At that point just bang it in and see what happens.

Martinez is obsessed with not losing possession....but if you are going to lose possession, then lose it inside the opposition penalty box instead of on the edge of your own.

I mean, it ain't sodding rocket science.

Seems there's no urgency at the moment either, we have 70% possession then realise in the 90th minute we're not winning and they suddenly start looking to score.. Frustrating.

Whilst I don't want to see aimless lumps forward like heitinga used to do I'd like to see more attempt to get rom or kev in behind the defence.

That was a rare occurrence, most of the time the ball gets hoofed, rom either gets beat in the air or if he wins it there no one about and we loose the ball. The occasion ball into space for rom or kev to run onto would be sound.
Possession football is the right direction though we just need to up tempo, press better and when we get in the right area cross the ball into the box no and again.

We need variation....as we saw with Rom last week.

A bit more of that and we might see more goals.

This possession stuff is fine if is hurting the opposition.

The only team getting hurt by our possession is our own.....because it invariably breaks down in our half and the opposition is in.....as per the second Spurs goal, the Hull goal and the Citeh penno that never was (it was the tiki taki out the box which resulted in Barry setting that attack up for them)
