So, heya lads.
DuAlZ WoRlD Of NeWz (sort of):
Went to an open day about engineering scholarships. Nothing really of note there, except some really cool free stuff! Oh and also a Scandinavian guy who talked really funny. I mean, he's obviously been in the UK for a lot of time judging by the way he speaks, but he just pronounced some words in a very funny way. And I met/talked to a few guys today that have that Sean Connery lisp thing. It amused me a bit.
Later on we had a lab session - I soldered! It was something new to me, as I wasn't in a specialised (at least for that - I was in an IT, English and Math class) school, so I had only learned those things in theory, so it was both very frustrating and interesting. Took me a bit to get used to it, but at the end of the class the head lecturer told me that I'd done excellent, after he showed me what was one example of an easier solution to one of the assignments. I'm a good observer, so I did as he did (or tried to, took a few attempts), and he told me that this was exactly what I should've done too. I'm proud of myself for something very stupid, but it was nice!
Receiving recognition for things you do is boss, especially when those are teachers/head lecturers (Head of Department I think, but there are a few departments, and he's leading our lab classes and our Engineering as a whole, so...)! Second time for me since I've been here, first one was on my first day, induction day, where another lecturer asked me from which part of the UK I am, which is weird as I don't rate my speaking ability so well. He even told me that if I hadn't told him I was from outside the UK he wouldn't have guessed!
