You are using this an example. The underlying theme of the book is racial injustice.
Context *is* important.
It’s used to illustrate the point. And it’s widely used in schools to open the debate on race.
its a false equivalency. you can’t compare it to the name of a dog in a tv program ffs.
I wasn't comparing it to anything, I was simply using it as an example of a situation where it may be appropriate to use the word. The argument was made "why would you ever need to post an article on that dog" so I was giving an example of something that uses the word where it's entirely possible that it could be quoted.

Erm, I said southern Ireland can be backwards because I've been there lots and experienced explicit racism lots of times.

This isn't a trope, it has literally happened in my life.
Erm, you evidently don't know what a trope is. I've seen black people eating watermelons but that doesn't make it any less of a trope ffs. Calling Irish people backward is something which has been done for centuries, it's offensive. You've just done it in a thread about racism, and are now doubling down on it when called out. It's not a good look.

Of course, and rightly so.

We'd live in a scary world if common sense and context were stripped out.

Indeed, though my point was that saying things are common sense is often shorthand for “We can’t justify this with an actual argument”

There is an issue in southern Ireland with explicit racism. I know this because I have experienced it, a lot. I consider explicit racism to be backwards.

My family historically comes from Ireland. I'm not calling Irish people backwards.

There is a big difference.

Would have been quite easy to just say 'there is a lot of racism in Ireland' (some people would find the term southern Ireland offensive too, just to be clear) though wouldn't it. Or 'Ireland has some catching up to do with regard to tackling racism'. And yet you chose to use a word which is very regularly used to give offence to the people you're talking about. And then not accept your faux pas. Interesting.

I literally mean the far south of Ireland, not the Republic.

If you're offended by me saying the far south of Ireland can be backwards because of the explicit racism, you should be far more offended by the explicit racism that is used there.

so i’m not sure if there were supposed to be protests or exactly what it’s all about perhaps a dry run but Man City & United lads turned up at their cenotaph morning . There is clearly a concerted effort over this .
