There are literally billions of train commuters every year.

Do you ever think people can't afford train tickets because the rail network was privatised?

TBF passenger numbers have gone up since privatization, though that could easily be down to better advertizing and more investment (especially in new trains and increasing line capacity) from the Government, as well as other factors like the massive increase in London house prices (pushing people out of London but ensuring that journeying in by car is impossible).

If the same amount of subsidy had been given to BR as has been given since 1994 it would be interesting to see what the result would be.

What this manifesto will do undoubtedly is massively re-energise the supporters that put Jezza into position in the first place. It's also put Labour - for the right reasons - right at the front of the debate.

Very interesting

The more affordable trains become the more they'll be used.

Since privatisation rail journeys have more than doubled.....however 1.6BN journeys only equates to a few million people per day using the train.....

Because the railways aren't under used, I travel to London from Liverpool quite regularly and most services are full. Southern Rail is over populated, and poorly run to boot.

The railway network is utilised, and think with cheaper fares would be even more popular

I bet that costs a fortune. Its cheaper for me to fly from Newcastle to Heathrow than the Train. At least I know i will get a seat flying, amount of times I've got the train in the past and the reserved seating has been removed for one reason or another.

Its slightly less than a third of the working population of the country. What effect do you think dumping nine million people onto the road network would be?

No one said to close it down, but why should the majority, who don't use it, have to pay for it. You don't pay for flights you don't take......

I'm with you mate, I think it's the best manifesto since Michael Foot's. I know it was before your time but that one in 83 was a classic, no idea how that bitch Thatcher got in......

Actually she may have struggled had it not been for the Falklands, although probably anyone was looking for an excuse as Foot would have been a disaster for the country.

1.2 billion train journeys last year, the majority of services into London were over crowded by an average of 2%, with some being as high as 14%

But that's not most people. It's the same people who do this most days of the year, the rest of us don't get on a train from one year to the next. If you want a better rail service then pay for it.....

It's not to bad actually, tend to book in advance so that's why my times are always hectic. Sometimes I get the 6:30am and come home 7pm, or 10:30 and 3:30pm. Whatever is available and cheap, but they're always full or close to
