Current Affairs The Labour Party

The way the Tories are at the moment should be an open goal for Labour to take advantage of... if they were remotely competent and not wrought by ridiculous ideology in the upper echelons themselves.

They are not an effective opposition and will never be while thoroughly useless people like Corbyn, Abbott and Thornberry are anywhere near their front bench.
And yet the electorate in their constituencies deemed them worthy of election!

The problem is broader than the Labour Party, it's the appalling quality of MPs / politicians in general.

Isn't there a saying, something like 'a desire to become an MP should automatically disqualify you from ever being one'? If not, there should be!

I don't mind Jeremy Corbyn, but he is never going to win an election unfortunately.

Too much time and effort spent fighting for actual control of the party and it's ideology.

Need someone like Dan Jarvis who the likes of the Mail and other right wing papers couldn't target to the likes of Corbyn, which has been a witch-hunt of him.

Corbyn never seems to do anything (or is not reported doing anything, anyway). I see more of Farron than I do of Corbyn. He just seems to remain utterly silent on everything, at least with Milliband and Brown you could expect to hear a rebuttal on most matters, making their presence known.

Bang on, it isn't Corbyn that puts people off it is the fact that the most powerful people behind him are McDonnell, Abbott and Thornberry who are not liked much at all nationwide for varying reasons.

thoughts on keir starmer as next leader?
One of the very few politicians on either side of the brexit debate who hasn't come across as a patronising tosser who thinks he knows best. Think his stock has risen in the last few months, may be too soon to be leader but if May doesn't call a snap election (which I think she will if Labour lose the coming by elections) then he has time to grow a lot more support.

Because Ed was such a dork. I honestly believe David could've won the election or at least given the party a bit of credibility.
Ed was like IDS in charge of the Tories, useless and always going to get a kicking. Trouble is with regards to how his brother would have got on, a bit like John Smith one of those things we will never know and are probably poorer for it.

"Because Ed was such a dork".

You couldn't make this up.

One of the main reasons why HRC was so toxic and why Trump got elected was because of her 'vested interests' with big business. The "right" Miliband made £75,000 for 15 days work a year at Sunderland, Global Arc paid him £14,000 for a single speech. VantagePoint paid him £100,000 for four days work consulting.

I mean come off it mate.

They're probably quite united on economic issues, but seem massively divided on social issues, with city dwelling Labour supporters being quite liberal on such things, and those from smaller towns being much more conservative. Heck of a job to reconcile those two things.

only thing i think he lacks is a bit of charisma
