I'm ambivalent really, but think that a) good management matters more than whether something is public or private, and b) we should be using evidence to support decisions where possible rather than doctrine.
There was a southern railway that was in government's hand a year ago or so it did really well in public hands then got sold of - the problem is that it's down to the manager who runs that railway private or publicly owned unfortunately it was sold off - ideology has no place in politics from either party - we have in the past sold of our family silver to think we can wave a magic wand and get it back is a big problem!
every contract would have to end to get it back and the private firms would certainly go to court!

er - the 2010-2015 government borrowed £555 billion. The next government is going to have to cope with Brexit and could end up facing another recession* given Trump, global instability and the lack of structural reform / corrective measures taken after the 2007/8 crash. They could easily end up wanting more money than that, and it isn't going to end (edit) up going on things that we would get our money back from.

* you can use these as excuses when it happens
Well, if Labour win the election then they'll be funding all of their idealist policies in the manifesto AND the Brexit negotiations. So they'll be spending double this if we go by your hypothetical scenario. Bankrupt us even further.

He should have picked a few key areas and pledged significant spending towards them. Really needed to find out the ones that would have the most interest for voters. And above all would have been perfectly doable and achievable.

As it is, the amount of spending involved just isn't feasible without bankruptcy. People dont like when politicians try to con them either. At least they've actually put something forward tho. Theresa seems petrified to do so.

But she's strong and stable.
Edit. Sarcasm in case those who don't understand it.

Diane Abbott was doing her best to drive people away from labour last week tbf. Personally I'm a bit surprised Corbyn hasn't offered tax breaks for low earners. Surely you redistribute by letting those down the chain keep more? That's a winner and tories will probably do it now to out manoeuvre him.

It is possible that those things may happen. Do you really want Corbyn in charge if they do, genuine question........

Yes. Big governments of one party persuasion are invariably useless at dealing with crises, since they always think that they can defeat reality because reality doesn't have a majority in the Commons. Look at MacDonald / Baldwin / Chamberlain over appeasement, or Thatcher over the Poll Tax, or Blair over Iraq (and other matters) (edit), or the massive pro-Federal EU bloc in the European Parliament.

Corbyn would lead a weak administration that would be forced by reality into doing sensible things, in much the same way that Major's weak administration was forced by circumstance after the ERM fiasco into fixing the economy in such a way that it left it in a far better state than it was before or has been since.

Yep, I'd take a whole swathe of the population out of taxation if I were her......
