But what do you expect to achieve from that? Change (and the power required to enact it) can only happen through building the largest voting coalition in the UK's democratic system. Telling the moderates to do one so you can have a smaller, leaner, cleaner party doesn't move the socialist needle towards electability.

I mean, it's an option. But it's also one that leads to being an eternal political protestor watching on as things get worse around you.

We never had it so good as we did under Nu Labour.

People need to remember that when they are next at the ballot box.

I'm generally to the left of New Labour but that's not an unfair statement over the past 40 years, given that either side of it you have the austerity-wielding Farage-appeasers and the sleaze-ridden vestiges of Thatcherism. (and either side of those it's Boris's Brexit Buffoonery Buffet and the Witch herself).

Could it have been better? Sure. But it wasn't as bad as any given Tory government that I've experienced by a long shot.

why not bring the centre to you rather than the other way round?
Of course, the best way to do that is to insult and abuse everybody who doesn't agree with you 100%. People who voted Green/LibDem/SNP/Plaid Cymru are "Tories" and therefore beyond the pale. As for "Centrists", they're worse than Tories. Starmer supporters - they're just "Red Tories". Blairites - one degree less evil than Nazis.

That's the way to win support, folks!

That's some straw men you're building there. Not sure I said any of that.

It's not about remaining pure, it's about what's the point of just getting into power if there's no policy that makes genuine change to enact once there?

TBF "the centre" is a nothing anyway - in modern political terms its shorthand for "we are normal, everyone else is extreme" and it only ever works when you have media and PR types attacking your rivals as extremists, so that "reasonable people" feel they have to vote for you to demonstrate their reasonableness.

Thought centre only works when you have special communication with a God which inspires you to go on crusade in Middle East or North Africa. At least we have progressed to killing our own with inaction in a war against virus.

Not really probably applies to Ingerland and it's luddite obsession with first past the post. When you move into areas which use proportional voting mechanisms it's much less decisive.
