In fairness he probably feels that way but you know as well as I do he has the far left militants in the party he needs to sadly pacify from further revolting against him.

He doesn't though, that's the tragic thing with him - he can work to get rid.

Instead he's putting no identity on his own on the party and instead it's all cynical focus group nonsense from him. Which is infuriating as the Tories have been an open goal over the past year but he's doing nothing.

I have a feeling he's playing the long game and once he becomes our inevitable future PM he'll then chase out the Far Left lunatic fringe and stamp his own centrism onto the party for good.

I think if he does it now it creates too much instability and in fighting which the Tories will use to their advantage.

We all have to get behind him as the inevitable alternative is some Momentum patsy as leader.

TBF I think the problem he has is that the faults you identify there aren't his; they are of the group who surround him.

To improve, he's got to have the confidence to get rid of them - they've failed at politics (serially failed in many cases), there is zero prospect of them ever improving, and most importantly if this doesn't improve they'll blame him and try to get rid whilst looking to protect themselves.

He probably fears to bin them off would leave him without support within the party, but if anything getting rid of these heroes of defeat would probably give him a boost (internally and with the wider public) and the level of support they represent in the party is probably less than 2% anyway; they are an irrelevance who are only there because of him (not the other way around). Of course if they were removed they would absolutely throw their lot in with the papers and probably ultimately with anyone standing against Labour, but that is the sort of people they are.

Get rid of them, get people in who actually have spoken to normal people and start to go after this shower of a government with arguments that aren't bloody appalling.

The Government is poised to take over the running of the city of Liverpool this week after a string of corruption allegations, The Telegraph can disclose.
The expected decision by the Local Government secretary Robert Jenrick to intervene in the running of one of the UK's biggest cities is unprecedented in modern times.

Commissioners could be sent in to run the day-to-day operations of the council for several years, something which has only happened three times in the past 25 years.

Commissioners were sent in by the Government to take over the running of councils in Northampton in 2018, Rotherham in 2015 and Towers Hamlets in 2014. None of them was the scale of a city like Liverpool, however.
Max Caller, a respected local government inspector who was the commissioner in Tower Hamlets, was appointed by Mr Jenrick to lead the investigation into Liverpool last December.

Mr Caller focused his investigation on property management, regeneration, highways, contracts and planning at the council over the past five years.
The Telegraph understands that Mr Jenrick has now received the final report and recommendations from Mr Caller.

He will make a final decision on what action to take this week before the formal purdah period begins ahead of the local government elections. It is likely that Mr Jenrick will order commissioners into Liverpool.

Mr Caller has already briefed local MPs in the area about the findings which will be published this week. His report is understood to contain a “damning indictment of the council”.

Councillors will still be elected in Liverpool but could cede executive powers to the commissioners for as long as they are appointed.
The city's accounts have not been signed off by auditors for the past five years because of the continuing police inquiry into "financial irregularities".

Mr Jenrick ordered the inquiry into Liverpool’s council last December following the arrest of city Mayor Joe Anderson.

Mr Anderson was held on suspicion of conspiracy to commit bribery and witness intimidation. Mr Anderson has denied any wrongdoing and last week he told The Telegraph: “I have never taken a bribe in my life."

A spokesman for the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government said: “The Secretary of State has received the independent Best Value inspection team’s report. This is being considered carefully and next steps will be set out shortly.”

At some point, it'd be amazing to see some version of facts or precedent back up how this would work

Somebody needs to take it over and run it properly...there must be a furloughed Whelk Stall Operator with time on his hands to do the job.

...now if only somebody could take over the Govt and run that properly...Keir and @davek; put your hands down and stop saying "Sir, Sir, Me Sir, pick me Sir."

(*Keir and Dave mutter to selves...ar ey sir)
