I just dont think its useful if you want to encourage multiple parties.

If you're happy with the choice of Labour / Conservative then fair enough but any smaller party has absolutely no chance in the UK.

Multiple parties, or two parties, or any number of parties shouldn't be encouraged.

For a democratic system to work the MPs must only be beholden to their constituents; at the moment (and under any proposed reform) they are beholden to their parties with their constiutents at best a very distant second and often (in safe seats) behind the media and business opportunities.

I don’t know the percentage of labour voters the unions represent anymore though.
Some union views do alienate ‘centre’ voters who tip the scales at election period, so it’s a difficult balancing act.

I think the Labour party has needed to split for a while now mate.

Im more centre left so a Starmer new labour type party suits me more than a Corbyn style socialist one but I agree that really its no good for the party long term to have the constant flicking of one to the other.

It would be good for democracy in this country if they did split - the more choice for voters.
No it wouldn't. Not while FPTP remains a method of selection.
It would further split the anti tory vote.

I like him, as do a fair few people I know who didn't vote for Corbyn's Labour.
I think he makes a good leader of the opposition. His legal background ensures he his able (as far a Parliament allows) to hold the government to scrutiny. I’m genuinely not sure if he will make a good Labour leader (too soon to tell) or PM (an entirely different skill set required than when in opposition.)

I have no idea what there is to like about him. He's so obviously a careerist who's plotted a course to the leader's job. He shamelessly stuck the knife into Corbyn's back in a coup after agreeing to be part of Corbyn's shadow cabinet team, and then when his coup failed, accepted another offer to be in the shadow cabinet.

His 'taking the knee' the other day was a huge insult to the people seeking justice for Jean Charles Menezes...someone he allowed the Met to shoot dead without punishment. What an unspeakable hypocrite he is.
