Current Affairs The Labour Party

He should be telling anyone gathering in numbers, whatever their cause, to disperse and show some discipline by sticking to social distancing. His priority should be the most vulnerable in society, which at this moment are the 2 million vulnerable people who are elderly and/or with underying health issues, instead of sucking up for a few thousand self-indulgent kids.

He also should have sent a message out to workers to ignore the return to 'normality' and these relaxation measures. But he's just sat back and allowed the Tories to scare people back into work and the confined spaces where the virus spreads easier: transport, shops, offices, factories.

He's not a leader, he's just an establishement figure with his eye on the opinion polls.

I dislike where this party is headed.

Chapman was a backer of Owen Smith during one of the failed coups on Corbyn.

The LP is back under Blairite control. Either the membership and unions move to challenge them or there's a need for a real socialist party alternative backed organisationally and financially by the unions.

Anyone could see establishement figure Starmer's trajectory from a mile off. He;ll turn Labour into the Lib Dems...and the Lib Dems will become extinct when they collapse into new New Labour.

The wet lettuce Starmer has said he'll 'hold the government to account'. How does he plan to hold Jenrick to account, when he refuses to turn up and answer questions, over his illegal leg up for his mate and Tory party donor. That saved him £30 - £50 million.

Robert Jenrick: Housing secretary refusing to answer ...

Great to know he's still holding them to account. Imagine how many more people would have been killed by them if he wasn't asking his forensic questions in PMQs? Up into the half million range probably.

Well done, Sir Keir.

Johnson, Hancock, Jenrick have all lied in parliament and Sir Keir does nothing. He definitely doesn't want to do anything as Johnson will chastise him for his 'tone'. The establishment figure Starmer knows which side of the fence to lob his lot in with and it's not the people. Johnson's dictatorship is full steam ahead and all the wet lettuce can do is not rock the boat while there are 60 000 unnecessary deaths and rising.

He comes across as what he is: a grammar school boy who knows his place in the order of things - a humble servant of the ruling order.

He confirms it day in and day out by stating he's there to cooperate with the government.

not sure how you both square all of those fibs / misdeeds being exposed with Starmer doing nothing, tbh

Utterly useless. He needs to be demanding resignations of Johnson's front line team (he couldn't even bring himself to demand Nosferatu's resignation!); he needs to be leading the fight against the crumbling of social distancing; he needs to be backing up trade unions who demand safe workplaces are in place befoe their members return to work.

He's a 'kin hologram.

I think the Labour party has needed to split for a while now mate.

Im more centre left so a Starmer new labour type party suits me more than a Corbyn style socialist one but I agree that really its no good for the party long term to have the constant flicking of one to the other.

It would be good for democracy in this country if they did split - the more choice for voters.

It'd be permanent Tory rule if the Labour party genuinely split, due to First Past the Post.
