Oh yes, Murdoch and his pals are all on board a Brummy working class girl taking power...

Christ.

Jess Phillips is not the enemy of Labour. The likes of Lansmann - ideological nutcase zealots who betrayed the people they claim to want to help by ignoring the electoral reality in favour of pushing for a ridiculous socialist utopia - are the real enemy of Labour. It's time to wake up to it.

Reckon she´s got the personality to win over Tory voters? I really think she´d be divisive but then again so is Johnson and he´s got a thumping majority.

Alan Johnson absolutely giving it to Lansman on Sky last night was beautiful. "The working class have always been such a disappointment to Jon"

Yeah, I saw that. If only we´d listened to Alan more like when we won the elections in 2010 and 2015. He has all the answers. He knows best.

Absolutely. She's one of two realistic candidates Labour have that could win an election - her and Starmer. For different reasons they are a threat to the Tories.

If the Momentum infiltration picks Thornberry or Long-Bailey instead, I can confidently say now that Labour will get hammered again. They are gifts to the Tories.

Labour had its core ripped it from it last night, and it’s hopefully the best thing to happen.

A opportunity for someone to be a leader and actually lead the party.

Angela Rayner maybe - could be a more unifying figure than she appears. Can't see anyone with her legit school of hard knocks background having any time for the metropolitan momentum clown circus.

Thing is the step up to Leader makes or breaks you and there's no dry run at it, she could grow into a brilliant politician or she could be broken by the media into a Diane Abbott punchline. When Jo Swinson was being touted for lib dem leader everyone in the party probably nodded their head, reasonable choice at the minimum. 2 weeks into a national campaign and she's done, the electorate hate her.

I think you're underestimating the impact last night is going to have upon Labour and Momentum. There should be and I think will be a leader to unite the party. There needs to be a movement on both sides though. The back stabbing and sniping has to stop. You can't fight a war against the Tories when a civil war in your own party.

what are labour rules on number of mps required for a candidate? will there be enough left wing mps to put forward a left wing candidate?

The Roberto Martinez of politics. Head buried in the sand and refusing to believe reality. And doesn’t have the dignity to resign after handing coal mining towns to the tories

He's going to go. They'll be planning the best way to do it now. At least there's time on their side.

I think Starmer is capable of uniting the party.

Not saying she's the enemy of labour. But you need Murdoch onside to become PM.

This ignores the fact of who the opposition leader was at the time. Just like it wouldn't have really mattered who the Tories put against Blair, Cameron had a broad enough appeal to beat whoever Labour threw at him. Brown was the best candidate out of the 3 losing leaders and he only just about managed a hung parliament.

Corbyn's grassroots momentum and the shambles that was the Tories in 2017 allowed it to look half decent on paper, I hoped at least people would feel the same considering it was against Boris but we've been further undone by the gammon brexit whoppers.
