Current Affairs The Labour Party

...i keep bleating on about Labour, but I think they genuinely have the interest of those who need support at heart. I’ve done ok in life, but I really have concerns about those less fortunate.

Labour are strategically woeful, they are increasingly pushing the wrong people into key positions and their governance is reactionary. Saying that, they mean well.

This Conservative Party, however, are dangerous. Decent Tories are being replaced by a new element who will do anything and say anything to gain power. I’m actually quite fearful of what could happen under their jurisdiction. They run rings around Labour.

Like you eggs, I want those less fortunate to do well. But the sheer incompetence of today’s Labour Party is what fills me with fear. They would take over, spend money they don’t have, drive business and wealth away from the country, which would then be paying a higher level of taxation. The first two years would be like a party but then reality will kick in, debts will have to be paid, and the money will not be there. it will be chaos.....

Dear Chief Rabbi,
You have shamed your office today and rendered the Jewish people even more vulnerable to real antisemitism by reinforcing the fake, media-induced antisemitism that you recklessly impute to Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party.
To interfere politically at this point in an election in a way that could affect the only party that could bring hope and social justice to this country is beyond contempt and renders you unfit for office.
As a Jew and a Labour Party supporter, I am proud to be part of a venture that I see as a continuity of so many of my Jewish forbears who have fought for social justice here and in Europe.
You talk about 'the soul of the nation being at stake' YET have you not noticed what has happened to that soul over the last nine years where:
1. The poor have been vilified
2. The ill have been attacked
3. The mentally ill have suffered
4. Inequality has soared.
5. Greed and financial rapaciousness has flourished
6. Austerity has been unnecessarily applied after a financial crisis brought about by an out of control finance sector that has benefited the wealthiest.
Where was YOUR voice about the nation's soul then? Yet you inveigh against a decent and honest man who, even now, maintains integrity in the face of manifest manipulation, deceit and digital sleight of hand from the Tories.
You have shamed your office, the justice loving tradition of the Jewish people and laid the grounds for future tensions in the most irresponsible way.
You seem to lack the acuity of intellect to even spot the most obvious use of this bogus antisemitism as a political weapon. Justin Schlossberg of the Media Reform Coalition called the antisemitism saga 'a disinformation paradigm' and made a detailed study of the issue. The great scholar, Norman Finkelstein, likewise, sees this a purely politically motivated attack.
How dare you, amateurishly intervene in this, betraying the great Jewish scholarly tradition of intellectual and analytical acumen embodied in the Talmud and the exegetics of the Chumash.
With profound sadness and considerable disgust,
Simon Cohen

That rabid Rabbi and the Jewish Chronicle lot and the celebrity Jewish hit squad are fighting geo-political battles that are repugnant to many (probably most) British Jews. As Cohen suggests there: they have made a grave error and they've done the Jewish community in this country no favours whatsoever long term with their intervention on behalf of a party that seeks to polarise the country on a range of issues.

Bravo, Mr. Cohen.

It is fascinating where this notion that the Tories are competent has come from. The last 4-5 years have provided no end of examples of their incompetence.

Indeed.

And beyond.

The whole ERM fiasco culminating in Black Wednesday circa 1993 blew the notion of Tory financial competence out the window.

Twofold for me:
  • They have a complete disregard for any responsibility
  • They aren't held to sufficient account by the opposition, but mainly by journalists.

Indeed.

The Opposition can only old them to account up to a point.....it is the journalists who need to amplify their rebuttals and that clearly is not happening.

On the contrary, government lies are downplayed in the media but every complaint about the Opposition, righteous or not, is magnified and negatively spun to the nth degree.

One hell of a movement Corbyn has inspired over the past 4 years. I think it´s very easy to forget that when he took people were predicting the death of the Labour Party. That definitely hasn´t happened.

I've listened to what Ashworth has said and have come to the conclusion that the man needs to be purged. To disparage our man is one thing, but to be friends with a Tory? Sorry but some things are just inexcusable.

IMO this was a stage managed stunt.

I think the “conversation” was recorded and made public with Ashcroft’s knowledge and approval.

“banter” my Aunt Sally......it was a strange form of “banter” and his “friend” wouldn’t be much of a “friend” if he acted on his own accord.

Why would Ashcroft do this?

To position himself for a leadership challenge if Corbyn has a bad day tomorrow and resigns on Friday.

So he say “weren’t my fault....I never liked Corbyn anyway”.
