Pete you know in what field I work, as you've raised this particular bit of whataboutery before. Remind me again how your chosen candidate is going to help the less well off?

Maybe the ‘less well off’ can help themselves instead of relying on the State to improve their prospects.

Like if they’re disabled?
Yes. They still have a voice right? After all they are always yapping on about rights.

They can be call centre workers. All they need to do is talk. No, I haven’t considered things like travel arrangement, office layouts, ongoing care or outsourcing but I’ve made a lazy point.

If they don’t do it they should actually pay the state.

Well if the character witness is yourself.....

She was my MP when I still lived in Liverpool and was still a Labour member, I was always impressed by her and found her a genuine person who was good with her constituents. I can't speak for the last 12 years or so, however.

But she put up with absolute dogs abuse even then from local Swappers, Militant types and (later) Stop the War.

You forgot the dependence on welfare payments by businesses to keep wages down ;)

This. Tax Credits are one of the most expensive scams ever perpetrated on working people in Britain. Instead of taxing people who are at the bottom, then setting up a billion pound a year industry to get some of it back, why not just let them keep more of their own money or increase the minimum wage to force employers to pay people properly?

It’s the ‘client state’.......

My chosen candidate is a guy called Andrew Bridgen, for North West Leicestershire. He has been absolutely consistent in what he stood for and what he supported, and was sent to Parliament to do his voters bidding. None of that ‘I know better ‘ crap espoused by other MP’s. He just does what it says on the tin......he helps the less well off by helping his area to be prosperous....perhaps you could ask Labour MP’s what they do apart from keeping their voters in poverty.....

It's this 'helping his are be prosperous' bit that gets me. Prosperous for some, extremely hard times for others.
This 'trickle down' concept has been disowned by most of its architects. The theory brought in loads of 'trusting' voters who are still waiting for the benefits 40 years later.
No investment in society, no clear approach to employment direction and infrastructure costs still borne by the majority while capital hoovers up the benefits with little cost.
It doesn't wash anymore, people are genuinely suffering, even those conservatives, small employers, self employed, have all been left to flounder so that a corporatocracy can flourish.

She gave as good as she got tbh.
