Ditch the phone, internet and gym plus £217 = £3,444, in three years you will have the deposit......additionally take an evening job in a bar 2 or 3 hours per night x 5 days produces another £5,000 a year after tax.

By the time your current lease is up you will enough for the deposit and the legal fees and will be paying £200 per month less than you are now while sitting on an appreciating asset........

That flat is not an appreciating asset. It's a leasehold, at the top of the market arc, the build quality will be garbage.

And also, it utterly irritates me with this "get an evening job" shout. He probably works his nuts off for that salary, and after tax from his "evening job" he'd probably see about £20-30 maximum, if that. Absolutely no way to live doing some b*llcks extra job and working 15-18hrs a day total, not including his travel time.

I was just trying to help.....

Ditching mobile phone internet almost impossible, I know for fact even some basic wage jobs would require you to have your own highish end mobile phone to fullfil job role...

The property ladder is incredibly hard to get on if you're young working class. It's not as simple as you make it out, to say the least.

it is hard, but it requires extreme sacrifices. I didn’t go out for the best part of 3 years to build my deposit up. Some people want the best of both worlds, the socialising fun lives coupled with the swanky new apartment.

There’s a lot of entitlement in this world nowadays

Why shouldn’t people want to be able to socialise and own the roof over their head? What you’ve described is a pretty grim situation that capitalists and people of the previous generation have created. It’s nothing to do with entitlement, it’s about having a decent standard of life.

Because you live with your means and by doing so you’ll have both.

Do you not think it's mad that in the 5th richest country in the world people are sacrificing having a bevy with their mates for three years to get a house?

You said 'it is hard, but it requires extreme sacrifices' - why should it? And let's not make out that plenty of people do live within their means and can't buy a place

Because property is a long term investment which helps people better their lives when they get older. The cost of living increases, property value increases, constant paying down the initial loan gives you equity and allows more freedom later on in life

Saving requires sacrifice

no, because I’m purchasing something of great value. I wanted something, I knew how much it cost and I made that choice.

it’s called being a grown up. The same way if you decide to have children you need to sacrifice certain things because your outgoings will sky rocket

it’s really not hard to understand, living within your means
