“people shouldn’t be punted to the poorer areas”

so I want to live in a 5 bedroom detached house in calderstones; how do I sort that out?

You earn enough money to live there. I at no point suggested giving people houses for free and I don't know what you couldn't follow. I said that the current housing market can lead to ghettoisation.
You believe people should have to scrimp and save to put a roof over their head just because you did. I say this is an unhealthy way for a society to run and we need to do more to ensure that housing is at an affordable level for all and doesn't just help people who already own.

not at all, you save to purchase something of great value. But you do that within your means, it’s really really simple.

You say it creates ghettos, I say it can create a thriving community. If a thousands first time buyers all moved into a “poorer” area of north Liverpool then chances are the area would go through some form of gentrification, small businesses opening, money going into the local community.

So now you want people to move into poorer areas and change them? Gentrification forces poorer people out of areas so now not only are they unable to afford other parts of town, they can't afford the areas you just said first time buyers should move to. So where are the poorer people going to? Even less well-off areas? How far do you think people can be pushed out of city centres?

The housing market is creating huge problems throughout the country. People have to move away from areas they want to live in or have been raised in, affluent areas get better services and better standards of living, as well as better social mobility for children growing up there. And that's before we get to the rising levels of homelessness.

Also this bit 'You say it creates ghettos, I say it can create a thriving community.' is some of the worst Tory speak abound.

It doesn’t force people out all, like in all instances people have a choice to stay if they are homeowners. It brings more money into the area and all the benefits that follow it.

but if you’re happy to let the poor remain in poor areas then that’s on you.

You’ve taken a very simple discussion, that people can afford their own homes, and just gone off one

This is spot on it doesn't create ghettos, it would improve communities if you have more affluent (by comparison) people living there. By sealing off the area from these kind of people and saying this is only for the poor will do so.

it’s a shame that pound housing thing in Webster triangle hasn’t kicked off as good as it should . Because that’s a perfect example, it’s giving people the opportunity to own their own property and by doing so bringing the neighbourhood up

but apparently this is a Tory thing and we should leave the poor alone to suffer. Bizarre thought process

it was you who came up with the suggestion that people are entitled if they want to socialise and buy a house in an area that works for them. It’s not entitlement it should be a fairly basic part of society.

at what point has that actually been said though? You are arguing against things that haven’t been said.

If you earn £24k a year how is it a basic party of society that you can live in an area with the average property cost is £200k.

that is not a basic part of society, not one bit.

saying you want to live there when you know you can’t afford it is entitlement

the housing shouldn’t cost £200k though, that’s the point. A person on £24k shouldn’t be unable to get a below average house.

yes it should, house prices rise

and a person on £24k doesn’t need to get a below average house, they can move into a perfectly acceptable house that costs half of that
House prices rise because of a housing market that doesn’t work for most - limited housing stock, right to buy, buy to let, less social housing being built have all added up to force house prices up.
The median wage is £29k and the average house price is £240k
