It's quite funny seeing the hysterics over Trotskyism.

I think it was Tony Benn who likened them to the Salvation Army in that they speak of great struggle, but in reality they're just normal people with a different altruistic ideological view of the world.

TBF to Benn he said that before many of them abandoned socialism and set out down the path of self-enrichment, irrespective of the harm it did to many people. If he had seen what many ex-Trots or ex-CP of his day would become he’d probably have reached for the ice pick himself.

The Labour left were derided massively under New Labour. Motions weren't even debated on the basis of them being (to quote Kim Howells) "airy fairy lefty loonie nonsense" - hence why so many left when we illegally invaded Iraq.

The Labour Party has gone back to its roots of being a community-orientated democratic socialist party, if sitting Labour MPs don't want to be part of that then they are free to join a party that best represents their interests.

And that Old Labour you describe never won an election and were laughed at by a great proportion of the population.

I'm a proud Labour party member but very much on the right relative to Corbyn et al. It's a non-stop battle at a local level with Momentum types that have mostly never had a job or a good wash in their entire lives.

I'm being flippant above to a degree but a Labour party has to be electable to punch it's weight. Currently we are beyond dysfunctional and the Corbyn cabinet is hardly a mine of riches with much more talented MPs on the sideines or having already left the party. Given the state of the country at the moment it's just lunacy to be tearing ourselves apart at this time.

And these de-selection attempts are not just attacking fringe MPs. Some really good MPs are being threatened.

Charlie they either refused to serve or resigned in an attempt to get rid of the leader and have refused to serve again, and have been attacking the leadership ever since. I agree Labour needs to stop the infighting, but they are the only people who can do that. If for whatever reason they do not stop these attacks, then the party as a whole has to take some steps to stop them. After all, they have been given three years to STFU and have managed it once.

As for the list of MPs that have left the party over Corbyn - Woodcock, Reed, Hunt, Danczuk, Dugher - it would be hard to see them as being much more talented than anyone.

Healthy debate that is.

They are the uttered words of a Telegraph reader and as connected to the concept and ideology of the labour party as an invite to Paul Dacre's for dinner.

No job or wash. Do you sing 'sign on' when you go the match?
Reprehensible from a labour party 'member' and more power to those getting shut of them with those thoughts.

So subscribe to my version of Labour, or you belong with the Daily Mail mob?

Thats what "not that arsed" folk find dead weird.

Apart from Danczuk, who was a bloody good MP.

Didn’t seem too many of his constituents agreed because he lost his deposit standing as an independent didn’t he ?

I don’t know that much about him as an MP to be perfectly honest , I know he did well with the Cyril Smith story but All the salacious stuff aside
I also recall him running afoul of the Parliamentary authorities for not declaring his income and for claiming when he wasn’t entitled to .

And that’s why I felt he was good. The Smith stuff for me was massive and I think far outweighed his misdemeanours.

Sorry, what?

We are talking about the same bloke who had a close relationship with a certain rag, who tried to lure a seventeen year old girl with an offer of a job so she would sleep with him, who claimed expenses because he had to look after some of his kids (despite not seeing them for years and then them staying at the flat in question once) and who purged his own CLP of people who dared accuse him of domestic violence?

Anyone who praises Danczuk should spend half an hour reading this (and the links off it), and then apologise.

edit: oh, and Danczuk accused Cyril Smith of being a nonce two years after Smith died. The Eye and RAP accused Smith of being a nonce in 1979, when he was one of the most prominent MPs in the country. It should be obvious who should get credit for exposing him.
