Burgon is a good shout. I could see him bridging the party. Long-Bailey doesn't seem to have the gravitas yet. I could see a lot of support for Thornberry especially given her previous positions in the shadow cabinet and the centrists see her as an acceptable face of the party.
I think it has to be a solid Corbynista. To gamble on a Thornberry or Angela Rayner is to let the right wing of the party have a big chance to manipulate their leadership. Those two would be swayed by appeals for a "broad church" (AKA allowing the free market aliens to contunue to pollute the party).

I think Long-Bailey has a lot more gravitas than Burgon. Had to deal with him once for a work thing and... was not very impressed.

The real difficulty will be finding someone who can deliver northern Leave voters, whose constituencies Labour will need to win if it is ever going to accomplish anything lasting (as opposed to winning London by 95% instead of 75%).

That would be the knock against Starmer.
Starmer is just a Blair. He really is. A slimy careerist who'd take the LP back to the Blair-Brown years...and without the victories.

She wouldn't be my choice, I like the shout for Burgon, but I can see her being a popular choice among a big portion of the PLP.

I've been impressed by Long-Bailey, I just can't see the public voting for her. Hope I'm wrong.

A woman who'd lose northern working class votes by the shedload.

If it's to be a woman I'd say Long-Bailey. Cat Smith is a Corbynista and good constituency MP but doesn't have a public profile yet.

Eggs, how many Labour MPs have been deselected since Corbyn became leader?

....none as yet, but I expect that will ramp up as the GE gets near. It’s the bullying and harassment I don’t like. It’s happening, but instead of condoning it folk ignore and deflect it. I was around during the Militant years, it wasn’t decent and this very much reminds me of it.

It’s such a shame.

Totally agree momentum are a party within a party, and deselections will occur,as the PLP rules will be altered even more under Corbyn .....

Its actually one - Danczuk - and I'd wager the only other one before the next GE will be Hoey.

There is bullying and harrassment with Labour, as there is in every other political party, but how much of it actually exists is unknown. Beyond the votes of no confidence, how many actual instances of it can you name against Berger or any of the other TIG MPs?

He is pretty much the opposite of a careerist dave - or rather, if he is a careerist then it isn't in politics.

...I really don’t know, Matey, but I hear the wide condemnation of what has happened to Berger and the regard to which she is held. She is the type I want in the Labour Party, not the likes of Chris Williamson. I desperately want a Labour Government but sadly the Labour Party no longer represents my values of decency.

As an interested observer, there isnt a requirement to make a list of instances of intimidation. If a LP supporter feels that there is an air of intimidation, then there is. A quick scan through this thread will easily throw up examples of folk/MPs not fully behind the Corbyn version of "Labour" routinely described as Rats, Traitors, Scum, Slimey, etc.

That in itself suggests that if you are not a paid up member of ONE brand of the Labour movement, you will not be tolerated. And that, to a floating, not that arsed really either way bloke, is a throwback to a time the Labour Party exhibited similar traits, and was turned off by it.

It isnt the actual policies, its the baggage.

Doesn't it at least concern you that you are being told of the bullying and harrassment but can't point to any actual example of it happening?

The tories are doing more deselections, yet no-one picks up on this.
The Tories have agreed together rid of their leader, in the next GE they are in disarray yet the polls don't favour Labour a moderate leadership would, and should have an the last GE with a workable majority.....
I agree with @ Eggs the militant tendancy has returned under the banner of momentum......
The membership may be high ,but it will not win marginal seats we need....

The Tories wish they had Momentum in its ranks.
