Live footage of me clicking on the updated Labour Party thread and seeing the one-man meltdown known as Dave in full flow.

Perhaps give him a little time to simmer down.

Hold on, the argument that these women didnlt know what was happening in order to prepare is utter BS. Even the ombudsman states that and the imbecile Liz Kendall states there was a lack of rigour in informing these women on an individual level. That's why we have government bureacracies: so that written communication between the relevant department of government informs people directly affected by their decision making.

You're backing the wrong horse here. To side with a heartless government over people who landed in debt through no fault of their own is very poor.

Dave this is a daft argument: these changes were not taken secretly or at the last minute, they were made publicly, announced widely and commented on extensively in 1995 and 2011. Even according to the ombudsman a big majority of the affected people did notice it, which in every other legal case I am aware of usually means a court will find that it was advertised (though that it could have been advertised better is a point).

To accept the WASPI argument (and that of the ombudsman) one has to believe that because some women claim that they didn’t notice, whether or not they lost out by not noticing, that all of them should be compensated. This is manifestly not fair, both to everyone else who lost out (male and female) by the rise in pension age but especially to all the people who need that money to go on things that actually benefit society - hospitals, homes, energy generation and storage, climate change mitigation, helping the people living in flammable cladding buildings etc etc.

Two good decisions by the government today:

Firstly, ending the ridiculous privatization of defence housing, £6 billion is a lot but it will probably save money in the medium to long term as they'd have fleeced us out of an ever-growing chunk of the defence budget, given that the cap on charging rents had expired; it is just a shame they were privatized on such terms in the first place (and that the Coalition didn't buy them back for £3 billion when Terra Firma bought them as we'd have saved even more).

Secondly, not bowing to the WASPI campaign. Given the pressures the country is under right now, not least the evident need to improve the defences of the country and our allies and the current tax burden, giving billions of pounds to an entire cohort of society because a minority claimed not to be able to read or understand things that were widely publicized and commented on could not be justified.

They need to communicate the reasons for these decisions better, mind - the latter especially, as the usual offence-peddlers are already seizing upon it with hypocritical glee.

Excellent decision & glad to see someone actually doing something about defence housing, unlike the Tories.

Grenfell, Post Office, Tainted blood, WASPI women are all legacy money pits the last governments ran away from...
We have effectively been without proper government since 2016. The Tories kicked everything down the road because of Brexit, and then because they knew they'd be kicked out of government and wanted them to become Labour's problems. They are self-serving scumsuckers who should never see the levers of power again.

So much easier to blame a government that’s been in power for 6 months though . That won’t wash forever but at the moment the idea that immediately carry all responsibility is ridiculous

I dont even know what WASPI is.

Fairly sure its nothing I need to concern myself with tho.
No, that's because you dont think in class terms.

You're part of the problem.

Starmer's Gang loves people like you: willing dupes who hand them their votes for f.a. in turn other than a load of broken promises.

Handing out punishment beatings to working class people.

Keep enjoying socialism in action.

This 'kin lot are at 70% dissatisfaction rates for a reason: they're a shower of turds doing the business of their elite funders from the city of London.

If only I had voted for Galloway or the Tories, never mind, hey.

I just looked into this WASPI thing, sounds like a load of rich boomers crying for no reason.

Screw them all, thats what they get for voting for Brexit the bellends.

We should all feel bad for voting these out.

Or something.
On today's "this is a massive problem now we're not in government anymore" the Tories and Liberals are on the side of WASPI women.

The same Tories who made these changes to the process, who sped it up in coalition and who completely ignored the ombudsman report when they were in power are shocked by this decision...
