73% of all farms are unaffected and Almost half the £1bn cost of APR went to 63 estates of median value £8m. Once Again the media agenda is that people losing inheritance to the government with assets of over £8m are who we should get excited about when people leaving £350k in a city aren’t anyone’s concern .

Rebecca you mention I know her is hundreds of acres , I believe as well as being a ‘sheep farmer ‘ her farm has a dozen self catering lodges with hot tubs , half a dozen cottages and glamping pods . If you price what land goes for in the area not to mention the accommodation what will she inherit £8-10m ? I don’t begrudge her that but the idea that I should feel outraged for her when anybody else inheriting 25% of it has to pay seems mad .

Clarkson specifically said he bought his farm to avoid ‘death taxes ‘ , James Dyson has bought 36,000 acres what because he has an interest in farming ? They are gaming the system and you applaud it , fair enough if they do but when someone says you can’t do that any more you’ve got some front to gnash your teeth.

I keep saying I could be persuaded that farming is a special case , it probably wouldn’t take much but nobody has tried they just tell me how awful it is Rebecca or Dyson have to pay the tax everybody else does .

Finally if the main concern is the land , the integrity of farming and all about passing it to the family then do it now . Of the 27% potentially impacted then surely the majority those farmers can easily enough assign property to their children right now .

I am, and forcibly moving anyone to another country is pretty grim and certainly not something to be celebrated. I mean no one would say what a bang up job Rudolf Höss did because he was super efficient.
