A sneaky trick not to specify where the welfare cuts are coming.

Poor families with > 2 kids
Pensioners
Welfare recipients

...all will bear the brunt of cuts to come.

Austerity.

Not necessarily. Building council housing and renting it out at genuinely affordable rates has the effect of putting money in the people living in them's pockets that would otherwise go to the landlord. If you build enough of them, it lowers the level of rents for everyone and will cut the amount of money going out in HB too (so further reducing government expenditure).

It even returns money to the exchequer (from rents and sales), making it an actual investment. As a policy it is only opposed by those who benefit from the status quo, specifically all those high net worth individuals plotting to flee to Dubai.

Reeves nailed it at the start of her budget speech, skewering the Tories for their fraudulent lies and for not making the decisions they needed to, except for lining their own pockets.

The spending is clearly desperately needed to fix what has been broken by the Tories - the NHS, schools, education.

Anyone who didn’t see tax hikes coming is deluded.

Hope we see some positives from these measures, after a few years of personal pain.
Like Starmer's lot took gifts and hospitality to go on top of their massive wages and expenses...and in the case of Starmer and a few others a massive fortune in wealth?

Got a big laugh to start with laying into truss' chancellor and his recent article in the press. "not perfect" indeed.

Do you really think the need for UC payments to the working poor will be secured that way mate?
Well fundamentally the richest/businesses don't want to pay adequate wages and are entirely happy for the state to subside cheap labour. Yet still fecking moan when they're asked to pay tax.

No not all of it. However, one could argue reducing the need for it is a start. Legislation/provisionnof social housing is another. You'd cut the benefits bill rapidly.

Didn’t agree with any of that, and they’ve already addressed it tbf.

To be fair, it was slightly different to the Covid vip fast lane con and the many other grifts that the Tories pulled.

I Do think labour could have hit the blue chip corps and big business a little harder in the pocket, hopefully more to come on that score.

The devil will be in the detail on that. It sounds plausible but let's see how many of those houses the private sector will actually build.

Hunt shaking his head calling it a lie, the disgusting snake.

There is zero economic legitimacy on the opposition benches, sunak has got a complete brass neck to speak the way he did after the budget - shower of charlatans.

blaze of glory stuff, knows he's finished so went down chunnering knowing full well he'll never have to follow it up. A performance.

In a proper Labour government the huddled masses wouldn't be expected to provide any Halloween candy to trick or treaters, the kids would all be bussed (gratis of course) to Downing St from across the country to get their sweets from the door of No 10 itself.

'kin Starmer Gang can't even organise that.

I think they're agenda is to try and hand a few crumbs off the table to workers while handing out tens of billions in investment to corporate Britain in the hope the much vaunted 'growth' arrives.

OBR view on the budget is that it looks like a budget for anaemic growth and destined to fade after a couple of years. Not something the government will have wanted to hear.

They all do it mate. Don't fall for the Tory media spin to make them out to be the "bad guys".

They haven't been found out to be giving multi million pounds contracts to their mates in exchange for it yet. Unlike the last lot.

I'm not informed by that lot. I know, as a LP member of old, just how much of a shower of scum the Starmer Gang. I need no instruction from the Tory media.
