A 24 year old on universal credit receives £341 a month to live on …. Less than a third of the state pension.

And probably living with mum and having no bills to pay. Or, now here’s an idea, get a job, do a bit of gardening for pensioners for £20-£30 an hour….

Well, the ones I support are in college, or doing unpaid placements etc … these youngsters don’t have support networks to fall back on

Perhaps not, but there is work out there if you look. Pubs and restaurants are always looking for staff, especially at this time of the year as many staff go off to university, minimum wage I’m afraid but still £11.44 an hour. A mates two young lads set up a gardening business and are making a fortune, another mate who was in the police packed it in and now is a window cleaner. I know this can sound condescending and I really don’t mean it to be, but there is work for those that want it….

Doesn't it work against your complaint about taking money away from pensioners though?

Giving pensioners money they don't need is comparable to giving Starmer a suit he can afford. Both are gifts to curry favour politically.

How would you possibly determine which pensioners ‘need’ money as everyone’s situation is different, with different costs and commitments. Starmer on the other hand is the U.K. Prime Minister with two free residences at no10 and the estate at Chequers and receives free travel, cars, and expenses as well as his PM salary. It’s embarrassing that he then sells himself and gives a pass to no10 for free suits and pairs of glasses for himself and a personal shopper plus expensive dresses for his wife……

He's shameless.

Expect more freebies and his flaunting of them.

This corruption has been going on with Starmer since well before he became PM. This is his right, he feels, as PM to accept any gifts, no matter what it looks like.

A man drunk on power is one riding for a fall...

He’s replacing the Pensioners Winter Fuel Allowance with a PM’s Winter Suit Allowance and a newly admitted Winter Frock Allowance for his wife….

Yes.. and if you work and earn over a certain amount your UC credit is reduced and your housing benefit …. It’s a difficult situation where the system sets them
Up to fail.

I see Starmer still refuses to say who signed off the no10 pass for his personal banker Lord Alli……

We're in the early days of this parliament and the die is cast.

It's a really bad combination to be demanding austerity but being lavished with and accepting gifts.

I said in the election campaign that this lot would be hated by the end of their first year in power. They've even surprised me how quickly they revealed how loathsome they are.

They never were and never will be a Labour Government. People still hoping for that are either idiots or deluding themselves.

I just hope Starmer can keep his £2M house in Kentish Town warm this winter for his housekeepers.

Thoughts and prayers from them.

Kid from a working class family, works hard and improves his lot in life and now you grudge him any reward for his hard work. I thought you Tories were all for people pulling up their bootstraps and making their own way in life .

Means testing 👍

Means testing 👍

Ok, one pensioner gets £11K state pension, lives in a council house, receives disability benefits of £110 per week and at the end of the month after paying all bills has £400 left and gets WFA. One pensioner gets £11k state pension and another private pension of £10K (which gets taxed ) but lives in the same ramshackle old house she’s lived in her whole life. Repair costs average £4K per year plus council tax of £3.5K, heating and lighting takes up another £4K in Calor gas, she gets no WFA. At the end of the month she has nothing left. Now how do you ‘means test’ that or similar scenarios multiplied by ten million…..

You can say that about anyone trying to claim state benefits. Why are pensioners so special?

Shouldn't they have worked harder when they had the chance? Shown some self-reliance etc? Why are they now so dependent on the state? Living beyond their means? Too many avocado n toast brunches etc?

Sorry, just chucking out my list of inverted 'entitled millennial' unsympathetic Tory responses.

They could try buying less Lotto lucky dips and stop causing queues at supermarket checkouts and the post office while we are at it.
