A 24 year old on universal credit receives £341 a month to live on …. Less than a third of the state pension. There’s a big difference between someone getting a £7k to £8k or £11k to £12k rise than someone getting a £60k to £70k pay rise. You should try existing on a pension amount…..

I’m not saying that I don’t empathise with some pensioners who’ve found the last decade or so really difficult I do , and I’m much Much closer to that than a 24 yo, but their domination of the entire agenda is a bit mad however probably illustrative of why governments try to avoid targeting them and focus on others .Just think of that….. last years pension increase alone per month was more than a young person on universal credit gets to live on.

NOT the poorest in society try and get basic facts rightFreebiegate and Wardrobegate is not a good look for a man who has removed WFA for the poorest in society….
Same, I do feel pensioners with the lowest incomes should be entitled to assistance with the cost of heating through the winter months, but I also think the state pension should be higher anyway for those with no other income. But the situation with young people is ludicrous…. Less than £85 a week to live on when you need food, clothing etc is tragic.I’m not saying that I don’t empathise with some pensioners who’ve found the last decade or so really difficult I do , and I’m much Much closer to that than a 24 yo, but their domination of the entire agenda is a bit mad however probably illustrative of why governments try to avoid targeting them and focus on others .

It’s appearing other places now. You’d think as a lawyer he’d have been more careful with his language.
To go from “I might miss a game” to “I’ll never get to go again.” is the sort of hyperbole more suited to posters on here than the PM.
Abell: “But let’s boil it down. Why shouldn’t the prime minister, he earns £166,000 a year, why shouldn’t he buy his own glasses?”
Eagle: “Well, why don’t you ask him?”
Abell: “Well, he’s not here. You’re here for the government. I mean, if he comes on here, we might try.”
Eagle: “I am, but I’m afraid I’m not responsible for decisions the prime minister makes.”
Abell: “You’re not, but you have an opinion. Should he not buy his own glasses? You’re wearing a pair of glasses now. You presumably paid for them yourself. I’m wearing a pair of glasses now. I pay for them myself. Why shouldn’t the prime minister?”
Eagle: “Well, the prime minister has had his say on that. And if you next time you interview him, you could ask him yourself. I don’t have an opinion.”
Abell: “Well, I’ll tell you why you might have an opinion. Angela Rayner had an opinion when Boris Johnson was getting money from donors. She tweeted: ‘What right does a man who complains he can’t live on £150,000 a year and ask Tory donors to fund his luxury wallpaper habit, what right does he have to lecture someone trying to survive on £80 a week?’ That’s what Labour attacked Boris Johnson for doing. And now you’ve got someone who has a luxury glasses habit who’s taking money from pensioners. People are going to have an opinion on that, aren’t they?”
Eagle: “OK you’ve had your rant.”
I’d guess we share broadly similar views on these types of gifts & perks for politicians generally. It just opens the door to the shady backroom deals the previous shower were so good at.He's shameless.
Expect more freebies and his flaunting of them.
This corruption has been going on with Starmer since well before he became PM. This is his right, he feels, as PM to accept any gifts, no matter what it looks like.
A man drunk on power is one riding for a fall...
This is what out of touch arrogance looks like...Angela Eagle interviewed this morning by Times journalist Stig Abell:
"Cap doffing to the elite"...as if the Starmer's: him, £8M in personal wealth and former DPP; her, personal wealth £1.5M represent anything other than being part of the elite.Billions of our money given away by 14 years of Tory governments to their cronies, instead of the state. And dresses to Labour leaders wife by the way of donor to the Labour party now becomes hot topic in politics. Who say you doing the cap doffing and bidding of the elite now...
I dont hide that.I’d guess we share broadly similar views on these types of gifts & perks for politicians generally. It just opens the door to the shady backroom deals the previous shower were so good at.
But that said your hatred for Starmer seems a bit over the top considering the non-crimes he’s accused of before becoming PM.
Doesn't it work against your complaint about taking money away from pensioners though?Freebiegate and Wardrobegate is not a good look for a man who has removed WFA for the poorest in society….
