I wonder if any socially minded individuals have thought of opening up private spaces to the public for use as "warm spaces" this winter given the loss of libraries across the UK since 2010 and also the loss of community centers.

They were quite successful in 2022.

I'm sure some of those that might have somewhere like a pub handy, who wouldn't get out of bed for a measly £300, could look into it.

In a fair society, the young and the elderly are looked after by the tax payer. This government might be riding on a labour ticket, but couldn't be any further from the social values labour once had. I say that as a 30 year old worker with my own financial commitments.

Can’t remember the same furore when millions of children were forced into food poverty during the 14 years of Tory rule. Foodbank usage through the roof, diseases like scurvy making a return due to malnutrition. Homelessness higher than ever before, with rules to make it illegal to sleep on the street wanting to be introduced by little Richi, nowhere near the same amount of uproar.

In fact, I’m sure there were calls for people to grow their own food and to cancel Netflix subscriptions, not drink fancy coffees and to get rid of phones, to help feed their family, as this was all a ‘waste of money’.

Take £300 a year off a load of pensioners who are not on pension benefits, despite a £900 rise in state pension, and it’s suddenly the worst thing that’s happened to the country in decades.

"I've paid in all my life" they moan, even though it's factually accurate that when it comes to pensions the money they've paid in has already been paid out to the generations before them, and the money that's supporting them now is what today's workers are paying in (and getting less and less back from).
