He did have some very nice lies to peddle early doors though. Sounded a laugh... fixing the roof, the sun shines, the broadest shoulders, fixing broken britain, that sort of guff. Then walked the country into his top mate boris' brexit fiasco and scarpered. Amazingly, disappeared through the immediate aftermath of the may boris truss fiascos and returned to pack rishi off in the home straight. Quite a savvy operator, Like the captain of the exxon valdez who moments before crashing the vessel relinquished the captaincy and promoted the cabin boy for the fall then popped out for a spot of lunch.
Just an opportunist who will not last IMO.... John MacDonald was on LBC this am - stating there are more austerity measures coming down the track - which could cause a huge split & he will not have a majority of support behind him - his majority will crumble in time if he does not backtrack - other Labour MPs are not happy atm - any more Austerity on the sick or unemployed & he is in the Cameron/Osborne era .... The bill on OAP fuel allowance will go through, a lot of Labour MPs will not show dental appoints etc ...

Only 2 weeks before being elected, no more Austerity = Starmer ....
I don't agree rich pensioners should get winter fuel payments by the way - his means tested limit is too close to the bone IMO - it could have been done on the income tax bracket or the council band brackets to make it fairer IMO his visit to Germany & France were a sham too.....

Then a chasm of £22Billion was discovered. And had to be bartered for. Dumping the tory legacy on labour seems a little harsh, there's some pretty large outliers to condemn from boris truss and cameron, yet being up front about means testing is the stick to beat them? Pull the other one.

So far as the smoke and mirrors of his France and Germany visits go, I sincerely hope some form of trade deal is being muted, as the ever worsening effects of brexit need stultifying. Thankfully he didn't insult the worlds war dead and the few veterans left like the last pm did though aye?

And I haven't noticed any austerity on the sick or unemployed thus far, let alone any more to get het up about.

If you mean John McDonell (former shadow Chancellor)... I thought you hated him?

Not a great fan, but he candidly put over many average Labour MPs views about Starmer on LBC today like many others have on TV - to his excuse of a black hole is about thin as the OBR were telling both parties the billions of deficit well before the GE & pledging not to raise basic income taxes by Labour was a big mistake!

OBR told him about a big deficit when he pledged to not raise general taxation!well before the GE ...

It's interesting that you've chosen him as the person to quote against Starmer given you spent the entire Corbyn era slating Corbyn and McDonnell, while citing Starmer's allies as evidence of their ineptitude.

Many Labour MPs are not happy with this style of policy it's at more right wing than a Tory idea!

Have you a link please, as this is the best I can find.

"My guess is that the last government did not want them in the Home Office budget because that would have increased the spending “baseline” for future settlements, pushing up the Office for Budget Responsibility’s spending forecasts and making it even harder to claim to be staying within the fiscal rules."

The country was held to ransom by the previous incarnation of government, strikes, withheld pay, a blame the unions chorus, spiralling nhs lists, cut the victims of cancer off was one big idea, send em to Rwanda another, the brexit fiasco, the ppe vip lanes, test & trace, holidays with the kgb, tax cuts for the wealthiest, hostile environment, a police force out of control, smuggling gangs killing desperate people via journey. The dirt filth tory racist scum ran the country like a country club for their wealthy pals, and the opening salvo on the wealthiest pensioners losing out on a winter fuel support payment is only the start for the truss selecting alright jacks that deserve the fruits of their choices. A dirt filth tory racist scum party that got taken to the cleaners by a kid footballer from a council estate that knew what it was to be hungry.

Anyway, why all the kerfuffle? who needs any fuel over winter when the bus is there ready and waiting...

"grateful to you for her bus pass!”

But but but starmer though.

It wuz chelsea sankey paper tickets fault tories!

The deficit was far worse when the came in I don't dispute that point, but the OBI were warning both parties about it - by the time on the present standing of limiting fuel allowance to pension credit how much will Labour actually save ? With perks it's about £5, 5500 Plus net free TV licence free opticians free dentist etc etc .... £120 page booklet to fill in & most CABs have been closed down ?

The system of benefits is archaic - so why Labour did not use a better system already in place - when the DWP has been cut to the bone ? y
To stop well off pensioners receiving it ?

Very typical of past Labour councils I was employed at - poor in admisnstation ....
