A bit disingenuous this. You cannot apply for asylum unless you are in the U.K., you can however apply for a visa while in another country…

So which one is the best option for these naughty Asylum Seekers, dear Peter?

Are you aware of the difference between claiming asylum and being eligible for a visa?

So which one is the best option for these naughty Asylum Seekers, dear Peter?

All depends on an individual’s situation. Apparently it’s possible to apply for a visit visa then claim asylum upon arrival. This of course requires that they retain their documentation versus coming here by dingy where it all gets destroyed en route. It may not be easy, but it’s safer and also legal.

Total Law…

“This means that while it is possible to claim asylum while on a tourist visa in the UK, it may be difficult to do so, and seeking legal representation can help your case. Otherwise, there may be some resistance and arguments against the case.

This being said, while these laws can be difficult, many individuals claim asylum in the UK each year, with successful asylum applicants making up over 70% of the decisions made by the Home Office in recent years.”

So firstly you need enough money to provide for yourself and a flight booked out but also in both the the form and in any subsequent visa interview you’d have to lie wouldn’t you ? You’d have to say you had no intention of staying and were planning on leaving and if they asked you in depth questions about your visa you’d have to lie to them . Are you suggesting you’d applaud lying to immigration officers and effectively to the crown ?

If you’re fleeing persecution I’d imagine the process might be slightly more difficulty factoring in your oppressors cooperation or at least tacit approval whilst you applied .

A lot of people claiming asylum do not have documentation like birth certificates or passports as the countries they are from make them difficult to obtain, they’ve already been destroyed, or lost having to flee their home.

Quite a lot of the time you’ll see their dates of birth as the 1st of January. This is because these people don’t even know their date of birth so have to guess. Some don’t even know how old they are.

Then why not apply for asylum in France, where they are safe…

Exactly this. Many people flee in blind panic. In some more oppressive regimes you'd struggle to get out of the country on a visitors visa. You'd be questioned on why the hell you're leaving. In war torn countries, folk have probably legged it.

Money often isn't the issue. Some get suckered in by gangs who tell them they know the process and can get them to where they need to go. Then it transpires it's a sodding dinghy.

Anyway, nice and easy to solve from the comfort of your local friendly Tory watering hole in Leicestershire, innit?

He has absolutely no idea how asylum works.
I was talking to my Afghan mentee earlier. He has a sister part-way through a medicine degree and a brother part-way through an engineering degree. He expressed a desire for them to join him in the UK, but you'll all be pleased that I dissuaded him of that notion and said they should sod off to Turkey instead.

How did your mentee get here Bruce, legally or by rubber dingy?

How would his brother and sister propose to get here, legally or by rubber dingy ?….

If I had a pound for every time that question has been answered for you I reckon I could afford your beloved heating allowance for the elderly.
The sad thing is, even though the answer is easily available to anyone, this is still repeated in bigoted boozers up and down the country.

One Afghan guy I worked with, who ended up here, would have preferred to be in the uk simply cos he can speak the language. They have huge difficulties doing things like taking their kids to the hospital etc.

People refuse to even consider this.
