I agree that Abbot has been villified, and no doubt some of it is based on her sex and colour. However, she has many obvious shortcomings and weaknesses which make her a ready target for attacks from political opponents. These shortcomings have nothing to do with her race or gender. She speaks in a patronising tone, will never admit mistakes (she "mis-spoke" in that car crash interview about police numbers, apparently), had made very large expenses claims as an MP, sent her son to a private school, and has made constant gaffes in interviews. If she is worthy of a place in the shadow cabinet (let alone shadowing one of the most important offices of state) the pool of talent on the Labour benches must be very shallow indeed. The fact is, of course, that she's there because of loyalty to Corbyn rather than any merit.
