Government borrowing and taxation. So two of your three policies have been hardened Tory policy for 14 years that have failed miserably. Quadrupled the debt and saddled us with the highest tax burden since WW2.
And your answer...your socialist answer... is more of the same Tory policy, is it?

Pretty disappointed in your lack of imagination here. A lot of Tories do like status quo.
That went into the economic effects of covid and the fuel crisis - and interest payment on debt has risen.

The Starmer Government has a decision to make whether to pay down debt or borrow again for investment in building infrastructure and investing in green technologies. The first course of action will see ordinary normal people shoulder the burden of the debt; the second choice of action backs the country with a stimulus package to get ourselves out of the mess.

Classic Labour-Keynesian approach takes the latter route every time....which is what Starmer's embracing of austerity underlines YET AGAIN how he is a Manchurian Candidate. He is the business class best friend here, promising them low taxation plus taking away any red tape for them to be the ones who invest - which is why he made that BS speech a month ago about 'natural' British entrepreneurship.

You cannot hide behind covid forever. You cannot get away from the fact that national debt doubled prior to 2020 - all under Tory stewardship. So much for austerity, eh - all that pain for nothing. They've never had control of the economy. Ever.

Do you really think investing in green technologies will untangle us out of this mess? Not in my lifetime - its too late.

Personally I don't see any other way other than austerity measures to some degree as sad as that is, but also better control of gov spending... and i have no doubt that Labour will offer that - which is why they get my vote and not because of Starmer or any other person in the party. Now none of the above is really the fault of Starmer or Labour is it... blame the party and people that led us to this and be thankful that you dont have to make life changing decisions for some people.

Yep, fair enough. One section of the Labour voting public chasing off another section, won’t end well. Again.

It shouldn't happen, we are a broad church.

I class myself centre left and democratic socialist. Higher education should be free and we should be investing in the Green economy on a massive scale. We could have been a world leader in CCUS but have prolonged backing from central government that the Scandinivian countries have surpassed us.

I,ve been critical of Starmer, i dont like him. I will support my local candidate as i believe in him.

I just wish we had someone like Bernie Sanders as leader.

You'll vote for Starmer and get the Tories without the sleaze.

Just concede that and we're done here.

I really feel for the youth of today.

Higher education costs and limited chance to get on the housing market for them.

Also the pension schemes they are getting offered are rubbish to what i got offered years ago. They are getting royally screwed.
There was a study I read a few weeks ago (happy to dig out if needed) showing how this is far from an equal screwing. Those who have been able to rely on the bank of mum and dad have generally done well, and indeed have done better than the Boomer generation. For those without that leg up, however, things aren't good at all.

You implied f.a.

You said you'd put up with no spending and it int be done overnight. That's austerity when its combined with a fairy tale about growth in the economy.

Look, its not my fault that you're economically illiterate.

You're illiterate fullstop you pillock, you're hatred towards everything Labour clouds You're vision. You've gone full tory. I said the opposite of austerity, but again carry on regardless who cares, back to GB news for you're next exclusive. lol
