The Economist nailed it. These kind of issues are largely irrelevant to the electorate but will tear Labour apart in government, just as Europe was largely irrelevant to the electorate but tore the Tories (and ultimately us) apart.

Again Bruce, I don't recall this ever being your attitude when the same argument was made during the Corbyn years.

These issue’s really should be relevant to the electorate though - the people around Starmer are clueless and personally compromised on this issue.

Radio silence from Steve Rotherham on the state of the rail network in north liverpool.

More than happy to have his photo opportunity for the new trains that dont work, and the new station that was opened without being ready to service, but he's nowhere to be seen when the network falls apart.

Nothing from local MP's, or labour councillors either.

Keep telling me how I absolutely have to vote for these chancers. Happy to take their seat and money in a safe city where they can do nothing hut still keep their cosy job.

It has to change. Get them gone.

The hero we needed yet nobody wanted 😢
By calling for ceasefire the only achievement is being excluded by Israel state on any matter concerning them going forwards. And if you are not at the table your principles mean nothing. Regardless of how profound. As Corbyn has found out.

On Europe, I suspect most people were quite happy bumbling along with the status quo and didn't find the issue as existential as the Tory hardliners did. It's the same with Israel and Palestine. We might say it has moral implications, but it has very little direct impact on the British people, and significantly less so than the invasion of Ukraine.

Former Tory chancellor Ken Clarke says he would be happy to have Rachel Reeves running economy

Ken Clarke, the former Conservative chancellor, has indicated that he would be happy to have Rachel Reeves running the economy.

He made the comment, which amounts to a semi-endorsement, in a podcast being launched by the i. He did not go as far as backing Labour, but he praised Reeves, the shadow chancellor. Asked if he had been impressed by her, he replied: Yes. It’s her party that worries me. Well, it’s almost true in both cases, actually. But if it was Jeremy Hunt and Rachel Reeves, then I don’t think either of the parties would worry me very much.

I don’t think they disagree on very much. Her actual approach, a responsible approach to macroeconomic policy, matches the responsible approach to macroeconomic policy that Jeremy Hunt has...I find rather reassuring – about the only thing I do find reassuring about this election that’s coming up.

By your friends shall ye be known...

….I think Starmer is handling the barrage of questions well on Middle-East conflict. As he says, the immediate issue is getting aid into Gaza and calls for a ceasefire won’t allow that to happen because a ceasefire isn’t going to happen. He’s right to stand with other western leaders.

I disagree. He's stewing in his own piss there.

He's gone to that chamber of commerce to set out an alternative Kings speech on the economy but no one is interested. They're interested in the utter mess his warmongering and prostration to the Israeli lobby has got him in.

….I posted literally years ago that she would make an outstanding Chancellor with her academic and Bank of England background. Glad the Labour Party have since recognised this and put her in this role and it’s good to see Clarke endorsing her.

Good news.
