Pragmatism over protest keeps you at the table-

Sir Keir says the war is "an issue that so many people recoil from out of despair", adding: "Anyone who has followed this closely [will have] seen images that can never be unseen... the innocent dead, Israeli, Palestinian, Muslin, Jew".

The Labour leader says the consequences of the conflict "could last for decades" and "the trauma may never fade" - but it is important to tackle the "ever darkening cloud of misinformation".

He describes the horrific terror attack in Israel of 7 October, saying: "Make no mistake, this is terrorism on a scale and brutality that few countries have ever experienced".

Sir Keir also outlines the "unimaginable scale" of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza
He says his approach has been "driven by the need to respond to both these tragedies", standing by the "right of self defence" for Israel and the "basic human rights of innocent Palestinians", and reiterating the desire for a two-state solution.

The Labour leader says he understands calls for a ceasefire but doesn't believe it is the "correct position" as it would leave Hamas with the "infrastructure and capability" to carry out another attack
Instead, he says a so-called humanitarian pause to let aid into Gaza is "the only credible approach that has any chance of achieving what we all want to see... urgent alleviating of Palestinian suffering".

He says the "facts on the ground will inevitably change" and "we must move to cessation of fighting as quickly as possible" as "neither the long term security of Israel nor long term justice for Palestine can be delivered by bombs and bullets" - adding a "political agreement, however unlikely that seems today... is the only way to resolve this conflict once and for all"
So in essence, the only path to peace is a political solution hastened by a ceasefire but also the continuation of a reckless military campaign against a civillian population. Cool. This man knows his triangulation.

What happens after the pause for aid though I wonder? It's like being battered in the ring by Mike Tyson and the stopping for a minute so you can eat a Twix.

Slightly off topic but in that scenario I'd be furious if the choice of snack was a twix.

Starmer has shat his kicks and can't hack this.

The truth of the matter is that he has very little experience in politics and no political smarts.

We'll see the cut of this feller now. I reckon he unravels. This Gaza slaughter and his failure to address it will be th prelude to him being found out on other issues.

One thing's for sure: Starmer is no leader. He's a coat tailer. He has't got the balls to lead. He had a chance to convince many of us we were wrong about him with this =gaza situation - he's merely underlined we were all right.

That Tory PPS made a vastly better point in his resignation letter last night - how does what the Israeli government are doing improve this situation at all?

That doesn't answer my question really.

Do you want a man prepared to stand idly by and not condemn the slaughter of babies as your PM?

Before you answer that think about what you'd be like if you were a father of one of those babies and you read Starmer's muck today...telling you its not the right time to save other babies like the one you lost.
It does answer your question.

But you feel free to vote for the little fella who looks like Hitler if you want.

I'll be voting Green. They back a ceasefire and an end to the slaughter. Starmer backs more deaths.

What a man to follow.

Don't be on the wrong side of history.

This feller is all over the shop now...he's lost his 'kin marbles. This is what happens when people who are not leaders pretend to be leaders.

Starmer defended Labour’s calls for a humanitarian pause to allow Palestinians to flee the fighting, and for aid to be distributed.
But he added that a permanent ceasefire at this stage could leave Hamas with the capability to carry out further attacks in Israel. He told an audience on Tuesday morning at the foreign policy thinktank Chatham House: “While I understand calls for a ceasefire at this stage, I do not believe that it is the correct position now.” He added that an immediate ceasefire would both empower Hamas and prevent the return of Israeli hostages who were kidnapped during the 7 October attack.

Note where he gave the speech btw: Chatham House - a right wing think tank HQ.
