Starmer: see where his 'cleverness' gets him...

Meh, tories will target the racist element of their base by saying oooh look, Labour. But we all know brexit has been and will continue to be a disaster
I don't think the tories will get the traction they think they will. That core group are gonna vote tory or reform anyway, whereas most people and business actually would want closer ties and less red tape, now we know what a poo show this has been.

This is a let's cling onto anything story
They won't get a brexit fight this time. They will try, it won't happen.

I disagree. This could get them traction in an election campaign...and also painting 'Labour' as a party fixated with hammering motorists...they lost a by-election on that issue and the Tories haven't forgotten it.

They'll go as low as they can to avoid an electoral wipeout.

Reduced a tory safe seat majority to 400 in a constituency they've never won.

Don't agree at all, its a complete non story.
The trade agreement needs renegotiation soon anyway. Imagine the uproar if nothing changed. Business will want less red tape. The media know which way the wind is blowing, it wont get traction. The story is buried on the bbc news site, its not even on the main front page.
Go on to tiktok where most of the younger generation get there news. It ain't there. It's not even got a mention on any of the bigger news feeds, as of yet.
Your usual suspects on Instagram also make no mention of it.

The ulez thing is an easy out on so many levels.
Boris brought it in. It was his policy.
The vast majority of people are not effected
If anything the u-turn by Sunak ensures Ulez goes on longer. Plus it is only a London thing anyway, other local authorities have turned away from it. Despite the courts trying to get involved. Starmer can easily.say, we are bringing in changes earlier, so Ulez will be gone sooner, under Sunak he wants to pollute your air for 5 years longer, so you might get charged for 5 years longer, plus daddy in law benifits. The corruption word wont get used, but it will be very heavily hinted at. Oh look who has just benefited from these licenses, oh and guess what, we are gonna need more of that petrol stuff.

Like I say, this plays well to the far right daily mail mob, but not really anybody else

We will see at GE time, when the younger lot come out to vote. Reckon it will be a whole different story.
Maybe, but I'll tell you this: the left of the party is who they rely on to get the vote out. I don't see a massive ground war from the so called 'Labour' Party. Then again, I doubt they;ll need it. Starmer and his front bench racists and witch hunters will get into power...then watch the deflation from voters who thought they'd be different to the Tories...again.

They should bury the 'Labour' Party or at least have the decency to call it something else. It should get done under the Trades Descriptions Act continuing to use that name since Blair.

This EU thing: Starmer has got himself and his party into a terrible mess over it.

From the Guardian:

The Tories have accused Keir Starmer of flip-flopping over the EU following claims Labour wants to effectively undo Brexit.

The Labour leader made a speech on Thursday where he outlined his vision of a future UK relationship with the EU, saying Labour didn’t “want to diverge”.

The Labour leader was speaking at an event in Canada bringing together liberal and centre-left politicians, where he said that “most of the conflict” since Brexit had arisen because the UK “wants to diverge and do different things to the rest of our EU partners”.

Speaking on GB News on Friday morning, the environment minister, Mark Spencer, accused Labour of obsessing over Brexit and said Starmer seems to make policy up “on the hoof”.

He said:

We don’t really know what he’s saying, he’s flip-flopping about. One minute he’s saying he wants to have free movement, then the next minute is saying he wants to control our borders.
He doesn’t seem to have a clear policy and he seems to make it up on the hoof on occasion.
I think it’s very difficult to define what he just stand for. He seems to be, to me, obsessed in getting into power but doesn’t really have a principle to get in there - and I think that’s the real danger of the Labour Party.
Spencer added that we have got to acknowledge democracy happened and that the country voted to leave the EU.

He continued:

The prime minister is delivering that Brexit and now we are an independent country, separate from the EU, but we can still trade with them and still co-operate with them, but on our own terms.
I think that’s the right relationship, the right balance.
I think to keep obsessing - as the Labour Party do - over Brexit and looking back with pink-tinted spectacles and talking about following their rules, I think just takes us back in time.
We’ve got to get over the fact that we voted to leave the European Union, we need to embrace that, make the most of it - as we are doing - and stop looking backwards as the Labour Party appear to want to do.

I mean, I'm a socialist so I don't give a flying one what happens to him and his lot, but is he trying to grab defeat from the jaws of victory...

I love how that “democracy happened” somehow doesn’t apply when we are talking about ULEZ expansion (in Khan’s manifesto), 20mph in Wales (in Welsh Labour’s manifesto), or indeed banning sales of all petrol and diesel powered vehicles by 2030 (the 2019 Tory manifesto said they’d define the earliest date, which they did).

They should just leave Starmer and his front bench careerist-racists to attack ULEZ.

It's deranged even by Dave's standards.
Is it not true...

...hold on...

...and....

...oh, it is true then.

As you were.
