Think you are under estimating the double down that many Brexiteers will adopt. We see it on here. Its rubbish because Remainers didnt row the boat is the mantra.

Its done. Its crap. But campaigning on that is not a wise move, imo.
Yep. It's over and done with. We just have to find a way to make it work.
The in-laws are devout labour but also big leavers. Foreigner's innit. ?
Anyway they said if Labour wanted an a new referendum, they just wouldn't vote for them.
I feel any new vote would need to be in a generational timeframe.

It seems all very culture war'ish. Most of the surveys I've seen suggest British people are much less arsed about immigration than they were in 2016, despite overall numbers being broadly comparable with then. Maybe given that these immigrants are ones we can "control" so they can't moan about them, they're picking on those they don't control instead. It's really bottom feeding stuff.
Agreed, Bruce. The government and Faragists have spent years convincing large swathes of the population that all immigration to the UK is illegal and via boats. Putin would be proud of the job they've done, thuogh he probably helped.

I think that Starmer’s adoption of the Tory “Take Back Control” bilge is a huge horrible mistake.

I can’t imagine how they came out of that brainstorming session thinking, wowsers that’s brilliant Kier.

The whole 3 word, meaningless Tory soundbite tripe, should have been swerved and replaced with substance.

Embarrassing.

maybe it's ironic but it leaves a flank open to the snp...

@Bruce Wayne, I'm starting to get the impression that you're not who I thought you were.

You're not secretly a conservati....Batman are you?
Yeah, it's like if you're not a staunch Labour supporter then the only alternative is being a Tory. I'd broadly characterise myself as a liberal, which is somewhat unfortunate as the Lib Dems are bloody hopeless, the Tories have gone waaaay to the right, especially on social issues, and I'm not really sure what Starmer is trying to be at the moment. Given the paucity of properly liberal options, I suspect the path that would tick the most boxes would be somewhere between Blair and Cameron, but given the paucity of liberal options, there isn't a party that has my tribal loyalty, which I accept marks me out as different to many on here.

I want rid of first past the post and then I can happily vote for the Green Party and know my vote will count.

Currently I'm in a swing seat held by the Tory party so will be voting Labour even though i can't warm to Starmer.

I did vote for Starmer and Rayner but have since left the Labour party as he went back on all of his ten pledges.

Where I live, Labour have no chance of winning the seat. Currently the Cons have it, but it routinely flips between them and the Dems, over the past 5 elections.
This situation makes me a de facto Lib Dem voter.

Obviously there are lot of the older generation who are unable to vote Labour (needs explaining to me that one). The vote for the Dems is more palatable to them and therefore the sense here is that the Dems, this time, will walk it.

Starmer to me has let the Torys hang themselves, no? He's largely kept our of it, which is fine to a point - probably this point in time actually. Now is the time to see some substance. My gut feeling is that he's a Tory in Labour clothing. More centurist politics - Blair MK2. But for sure without the in-your-face corruption and hopefully far more competent than the current mob of thieves.

I suppose the nature of democracy is that we'll seldom ever get a government that aligns perfectly with our values, so we always have to choose the next best thing.

Time will tell.

Brexit was the elephant in the room and bound to be a stick to beat him with come the election given he was clearly avoiding it like the plague. Think he's tried to give himself a response - the slogan was just a slogan, the outcome isn't what anyone wanted, so now we will actually give people back control (locally). Whether it appeals enough to both sides is anyone's guess.

I like it. It tags along with his push to change the House of Lords, pierage etc
We all know that the westminister governance system is archaic and ready for change, something the cons would never do (to their mates)

If the populace switched on to the notion of taking back control from the false ills of the EU then those same people will most likely still be facing the same realities if not a lot worse. If they want to take back control then it is from Westminster which the striking sectors can see. There is room to develop and run with that tag line for Labour IMO.

Well I see Labour are intent on blowing any chance of the next election, Starmer having backed Sturgeon over the trans issue he has now told everyone at Davos that he’ll not allow new investment in North Sea Oil or Gas. This obviously burnishes his right on Islington dinner party credentials but I’m not really sure it will play well across the country. And Nandy, who I thought had more sense, has come out and said kids as young as 13 should pick their sex...with everything going their way they always find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory…….
