A half-competent opposition would have given Boris a run for his money.

A half-competent opposition would absolutely eviscerate Kwarteng's budget, and wallop Truss by about 100 to 115 seats in a GE - she's basically started a civil war in the Tory party.

A half-competent opposition would not have Starmer as leader, Rayner in the cabinet, and Abbott, Burgon, Lammy or Thornberry in the party however. So it looks like we don't have a half-competent opposition, so we're shafted.

The voting system doesn't matter when only one party contests GEs.

A half decent front bench would not have a Victorian throw back like Rees-Moog sitting on it. Could add other incompetents like Raab, Grayling, Hancock et al who have cost the tax payer millions in poor decisions. How much has Abbott cost the U.K. tax payer?
Always like to look at the front pages of the daily papers each day to have a better idea why the left make no significant inroads in polling and it’s not due to party competence.

Murdoch and similar cronies bought johnson and his lying cabal the majority, what fights that?

as you point out, theres a split in the con party but it will be fixed in about 10-12 months, with only the hardcore maniacal con believers prepared to back truss and her brethren of sycophants and the others looking elsewhere, johnson rides in to save the day, "I am the con party's only chance, it's me or that filth labour" suddenly 'he was a good pm', 'they all tell lies afterall', 'got brexit done', 'we were much better off with boris' etc.

somehow the cons have split the party against themselves only to unify in the final hour and pluck victory from the jaws of defeat. my problem with it is that a great percentage of my so called fellow voter are so thick as to believe yet another pack of lies.

Imagine the free reign granted if the cons get in again after the current show, the harm and destruction. To them its a big game where someone else picks up the tab, that someone is the ordinary civilian without the protections and privilege the cons and their ilk flaunt.

Anything that alters the voting norm has to be considered as the clown show currently appears heavily weighted in the abusers favour.

One might add a consideration against corruption and the dark arts of spin and profiling.

Can’t believe they aren’t screaming for a snap election here. Perfect opportunity to get into power.
Mentioned this before.
You wouldn't want an election now. You get in power now, you have to deal with the strikes.

A sensible plan is, see how it all plays out, come up with a proper manifesto to run on, and then start screening for an election.
Not yet though.
We would love one, but Starmer and Labour? Not so much. You don't walk into a collapsing building. Wait and see what the structure is like, then go in.
