He has been a fantastic servant for the club. Approaching 200 games since signing in 2003 and still only 28, he still has years ahead of him.

With Jagielkas form, his ability seems to be getting overlooked. It wasn't that long ago he was winning our player of the season, now hes fighting for a place. Shows how we are improving.

Described simply, he's boss.

Shouldnt this thread be subtitled - HOOOOF!!!!

Nah, I do like him, he's been the forefront of the Moyes revolution so to speak and his first great buy.

He's now been supassed by younger talant as the team is moulding into being less a route one and more passing side but that happens in footy. He does panic, likes to hoof, and his concentration lets him down - he'll never play down when he was tieing his boot lace allowing a long range shot to fly in.

But I read about his excellent charity work and I'm sure the whole episode with his brother last year affected his game this season. But he's been 100% professional and is a rock solid defender.

Jagielka is the worst culprit of long punts to the wing to thin air.

Though, given his suspect distribution, its probably wise!

I wouldnt agree with that. Jags does hoof, fair enough, but IMO its never a deep-set ability embedded in him ala Yobo. Jags plays it easy, hoof when there's nothing on.

Yobo just tonks. I remember in the Stoke and Boro games there were blue shirts all around Yobo at one point but he still hoofed it when the easy pass was on.

There's a difference between hoofing blindly ala Yobo and hoofing when hoofing is needed ala Jags.

I dont think you can argue Jags distribution is good. :(

Never said it was but its better than Yobo's. Jags is the lesser of 2 hoofers.

I do feel Moyes employes the "get effing rid" mentality into his centre halfs. Non of this knocking it around in and around the area stuff Arsenal-style, just non-nonsense belting of the ball out of danger.

Both Yobo and Jags are guilty of that, and I'd rather have Yobo playing in that "30seconds to go, 2-1 up in the FA Cup Final, opposition pounding down the goal mouth" just to welly the thing into outer space. But they're both different kinda of hoofers..Jags less so.

Would disagree to be honest.

I dont think Yobos hoofs as frequently as Jagielka, also think Yobos are more accurate, as in... his are generally in the direction of an Everton player. Jags tends to just aim as close to the corner flag as possible.

A good defensive midfielder who can distribute it (M'Bia) should help Jags.

Agree to disagree. When Arteta dropped into the middle he always dropped deep like a good Spanish midfielder does and got the pass from Jags. Yobo would just balloon the bad boy as far as possible in panic mode if he had the chance. Could be down to Neville who's a prone hoofer himself.

Anyway, dont hate the player. Hate the game. We're supposed to be appreciating Yobocop. Part man, part machine, all cop...I mean defender.

I like Yobo, when we are 3 or 4-0 up i love watching him take on players, but he does scare me.

Im far more comfortable with Jagielka - Lescott at the back, i hope he sticks around...problem is if he gets back into the team next season Moyes wont drop him until he gets injured...

See, I would phrase that as Yobo being more composed on the ball.

Jagielka is more prone to switching off, like Aston Villa.

Both have their strengths, when Jagielka is in his zone, as he was against Torres, hes exceptional.

An appreciation thread has unsurprisingly turned into a comparison thread over who is the mutts nuts.

They both have their pros and cons...but what is fecking brilliant is the fact they both give it all for the cause imo and as such these comparisons are pointless imo.

lest the day we actually have pish poor defenders again!

Yobo is the more supierior footballer to Jagielka but as an out and out defender, Jagielka is better.

I like Yobo. It's really hard to keep all 3 happy though and something will probably have to be done.
