That is exactly why some clubs get stuck, those paying high wages cannot get rid of players who do not want to take a paycut. Owen was the exception as he is desperate to get into the England camp.

He obviously plays with a fair bit of passion (would partially explain the yellow card issue)...thinkin' him and Timmy will get on like a house on fire.

Provided he plays well and keeps that passion up I think the supporters will take to him from the off. I'm sure the GSE will get him all riled up to the point where he's choppin' down everything that moves. He actually might be a liability in the derby.

lets be honest, we can use the money that we obviously still have left to keep the quality players we have happy. Id rather raise the wages of Arteta, Pienaar etc than spend £5m for example on a squad player.

Don't forget loan deals include a fee which can often be a few million. I predicted long ago that the original budget would disappear if we sold Lescott and although I've ended up being right I think we have actually tried to spend both amounts.

It's just Bill could only scrape together 5 or so million in the first place. In some interview on ETV after the fake AGM in the tent Bill said something along the lines of being disappointed at only being able to give Moyes "5...10..15million" and hoping he can work miracles with it. That could have bought Naughton or been a first installment on Defour both things we know we tried to do before Lescott left.

So if we think we spent 20.7 and received 22 add in a loan payment for Jo and the planned fee for Banega we would have been spent up.
