I disagree. I think they have a very good partnership. I think our problems in conceding last year were more down to individual error and being stung on the counterattack after poor offensive play. I thought we were still quite well drilled, and Distin and Jags compliment each other well.

I also don't think Jags and Heit would make a good pair as Heit lacks pace and they both lack height when compared to Distin. Plus they're both right footed, and Moyes likes left footed LCBs.

I like Heitinga but he is not as important as the people playing beside him. I wouldn't be too sad if we sold him what we bought him for. Made up he's still here like.

They cover for each other well enough but I reckon all too often they end up digging each other out of each others mistakes rather than acting as a unit. I'd argue that digging your partner out of his mistake is part of being a unit. Because all CBs make mistakes, but if your partner's on the same wavelength and alert to you, he can cover you and so on.

But I think you're quite right that their individual talent goes some way to compensating for any lack of understanding. I just don't think there's much of a lack. I've seen interviews with them and they say they have a strong understanding, and from what I've seen of them (and I watch almost every game in full, now that streams are always available!) they've backed that up on the pitch.

However interpreting an understanding between two players is obviously not a simple thing to do, so one or both of us could be wrong.
