The Joel Robles Fanboy Thread.

I'm no fan of Robles, and there's no way he's the future No.1 at Goodison long term.

However, Howard was mince before he was injured and Robles has done Ok in his last few games and should therefore retain his place

Sounds like Howard will come straight back into the team judging from Martinez' press conference...

.. little bit worried, 3 clean sheets on the spin with Joel

It's a return of our first choice back four that has manly been the cause for this, he's hardly been under pressure during the last 4 games. We've just been more solid rather than Robles proving anything with great performances.

It's no surprise really Howards the number 1 and the better keeper but it's no coincidence that in the January window we were looking for someone to challenge Howard stronger, Martinez has said he needs more competition for his place. It's hardly a ringing endorsement for how he rates Robles is it.

If Martinez drops Joel it is because he has a lack of authority among the whole squad and needs to please the seniors.....naimsith refusing to come off made me realise there is not enough respect given to martinez that a manger usually needs to do his actual job

Martinez is right about having a number 1 and sticking with him after injury as GK is a different position in that respect to the outfield players.

However that is completely offset by how utterly gash Howard has been for the majority of the season. Any other top 7 manager would have dropped Howard long ago and rightly so. Robertos management of the big name players has left a lot to be desired since he came here. Goodison hates a player being picked because he is the managers favourite (p nev) and he is risking eroding what little support he has by dropping a player who has earned the spot.

Robles has had a more settled back 4 I guess.

Howard hasn't had that this seaosn. Maybe it will help him as it helped Joel.

I dunno. Just looking for something good I guess.

if martinez drops joel, for howard it just confirms to me that he's scared of names / personalities and has little backbone.
I think modern managers have to be aware of the dressing room dynamic. Gone are the days of the authoritarian type of manager.

Howard might have been playing poorly but he was out of the side due to injury and many might feel if he wasn't brought back in then that would be unfair. However Howard now knows he has real competition and Joel has had a taste of 1st team football. I don't see how this is bad situation for us so although Joel doesn't deserve to be dropped it probably is the right decision.

I just hope Howard if he hasn't got his game face back makes a howler before the Europa games so Martinez can rightly bring Joel back in.

RM says that Howard is still the no.1 keeper.

However, Joel will play.( in my opinion)

Its RM's management style.

Howard is not as good as Joel. ( in my opinion)

It also sends completely the wrong message to the fringe players in the squad. If you get your chance and play well, makes no difference, you'll lose your place again the minute a first teamer is fit.
The message is that you have to take someone's place on merit not injury. It is now Howard's to loose. Joel has shown he can do the job.

Howard was a major reason why the back 4 was unsettled. Plus an unsettled back 4 doesn't account for him getting beat at the near post 15 times, the Crystal Palace game etc.
