The Greatest

very true that mate, but we'll never know what Ali was really like in his prime because he never actually fought in what would've been his peak years.

I agree with what you're saying about Tyson and his abilities as a more "squat" fighter, I'd say a lot of that was down to his lateral movement, but I'll say if they both could've have fought in their prime, I'd trust Ali to have overcome it, same as he did with Foreman (in his prime) when Ali was near enough over the hill.

Sadly we'll never know, but one thing is for sure Ali was around when there were many heavyweight greats and having beaten them all he has a legacy that is simply mind blowing! Tyson didn't have such a golden era when he was KO'ing people in his prime, and after that boxing hasn't really had much of a heavyweight division sadly.

Ali's longevity, ability to adapt his style, and for the fact he faced them all and beat them all, that's simply amazing in all honesty.

And Mads there's no way Tyson had faster hands than Ali, absolutely no way.

I thought a quick Google would find the answer to that one, with someone having studied the videos and clocked both fighters hand speed with some fancy mathematical calculations, but sadly no! What I did find was this has been debated quite a bit, with some saying Tyson was a little bit quicker with his hands and some arguing Ali's jab was faster. The only clear truth is Ali had faster feet and Tyson had faster head movement. The rest is possibly a mystery! But I'm still going to say Tyson's hands were faster :P

All about quality of opponent. The fighters Tyson was knocking over were nowhere near the quality of fighter Ali had to beat.

Ali all day.

Tyson at his peak would beat anyone!!!

That's what they said about Liston until Clay came bringing his utter arrogance and belief in his own invincibilty and took no notice of Listons Tyson-esque ( or should that be Tysons Liston-esque rep. )

That's what they said about Frazier.
Frazier just beat Ali after a long lay off and 1 or 2 warm up fights.

Until Foreman knocked Frazier literally off his feet.

That's what they said about Foreman....Until the re focused Ali roped the dope.

The young Clay would've been too fast for Tyson, the older Ali would've been too clever

He's called the greatest for a reason...and they can't ALL be wrong.

Tyson was unstoppable for a number of years. During that time he beat the best heavyweights around and became the undisputed champion.

An amazing athlete, but I can never forgive him for the way he portrayed Joe Frazier - a good, honest fighter without the media savvy or clout of Ali - as an Uncle Tom. Frazier was anything but.

He went to his grave hating Ali, and understandably so. Ironically, in trying to take the moral high-ground, Ali played to the white man's gallery.

Not what I remember him saying, I can see him with tears in his eyes talking about the shell of a man that Ali became

Tyson unified the division that was career defining at the time. Don't think you can compare people from different times though. Louis,Tyson and Ali
