Mastermind by Evan Ratcliffe 2019

Insane story about a guy called Paul Le Roux who was one of the world's biggest drug runners and arms dealer who was having people killed all over the world and planning to invade and take over a country before being caught and turning super grass. Oh, and he probably invented bitcoin aswell.

Very good for an auto biography.

Well written and very interesting, even if you’re not a cricket fan.

I’d go as far as to say, it should’ve really been done in two books :

Young Freddie and County Cricket.

Older Freddie : International Cricket and afterwards.

It felt like he had so much more to say and some bits got glossed over.

He also very obviously doesn’t want to talk about the crash that very nearly killed him on Top Gear.

Bad Influence: How the Internet Hijacked Our Health Book by Deborah Cohen 2026

In a nut shell. Women are vapid, self obsessed monkey see monkey do creatures that are desperate for social acceptance and would be happiest if social media didn't exist. Plus, big pharma are a bunch of money grubbing bar stewards and have mastered advertising methods that exploit and abuse these weaknesses directly via their phones.

The Hour of the Predator: Encounters with the Autocrats and Tech Billionaires Taking Over the World by Giuliano da Empoli 2025

A somewhat depressing narrative that implies that neo liberals and technocrats have lost out to today's men of action (tech bosses) and their enforcers (aurocrats, dictators, populists etc) and that we are slipping into a Kafkaesque existence of pure data without the human touch or quality to make things better. Very quick read.

A Little History of the Earth by Jamie Woodward 2025

Great little overview of the creation of the earth to modernity. Full of archeology, dinosaurs, science and the rest. It provides lots of different jumping off points if you want to go and look deeper into subjects it covers (I went down a rabbit hole on YouTube about the Messinian salinity crisis for example). Might be a good recommendation for kids and teens into science and stuff.

Captives and Companions: A History of Slavery and the Slave Trade in the Islamic World Book by Justin Marozzi 2025

Very much an anti slavery book rather than an anti Islam book. A fascinating and brilliant read that looks into the history and cultural evolution of slavery in that part of the world.

Love Machines: How Artificial Intelligence is Transforming Our Relationships by James Muldoon 2026

A look at chat bots and AI companionship. It doesn't get too deep into the technical aspects of large language models, so it's OK for a layman. It is quite depressing to read about these companies that have contributed to the destruction of real life social connections now profiteering from the loniness they helped create.
