The GOT Book Club

Theres tons of good books. All depends what you want to read eg fact, fiction or whatever. I'm coming to the end of Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. Its a great thriller and well worth a read. I'll usually read fact based books like true crime or adventure stories but if a story grabs me I'll read it. Another good book thats going cheap in the Asda is The Assassination of Marilyn Monroe by Donald H Wolfe or if you can find a copy of Six Against The Rock by Howard Clarke which is the true story of an Alcatraz escape.

I pretty much only read true crime books. I used to be like Danny and had never read a book till i was about 25, then i took one to work to read cause i was bored during breaks and now i hate being without one.

Currently reading "The Lost Boy" which is about the Moors Murders although so far its mainly about the authors experience writing the book and Hindleys Upbringing as opposedto the actual events, which is kinda good in a way.

Please, please, please, please, please, please read Jim Thompson. This guy is a feckin' genius. He wrote in the '50s and is the King of pulp fiction. This guy was writing about the sociopath and the psychopath before anyone knew what these characters were about. His books are always from the criminal's point of view and are so god damned dark that they'll chill you to the bone. If you're a fan of intelligent crime novels, you'll not put the books down until the last page. Especially brilliant are Pop 1280, The Killer Inside Me and the Getaway. Look him up on ebay and take a chance (WHAT'S A FEW QUID?). If you like Cain or Hammett you'll adore Thompson 'cause this guy really takes things to another level.

Otherwise, Edgar Allan Poe for sheer gothic horror. Also, try Franz Kafka's short stories. The longer novels are also good but can be a tad annoying after 100 or so pages.

if you like crime books James Elroy is the bollox!

working offshore, I'll read just about anything, just finished GLUE by Irvine Welsh, really good, especially if you've read Trainspotting and Porno

I bought this one straight after I finished the Da Vinci Code (which I thought was quality if you can manage to get yourself sucked into the story) but have not got round to reading it. I might dig it out and have a crack at it.
